Do we need to swap the words in the thread title and rename it "Brennan Johnson - Price?" ?

This is just pure recency bias.

Brennan has carried us at times this season specifically when MGW wasn’t on form, we are trying to build a team not dismantle one.

If we sell our best players we need to be compensated accordingly. 60m does not go far in this league when you are looking at the next level of player.
I don't doubt there's been times Johnson has carried us. Absolutely.

But our best shape, and our best performances came without him in the team.

If you play MGW, Johnson and Taiwo you end up unbalanced given our current makeup, and right now, he's the worst of those three very good players.

Look, I'm happy if he stays. I hope he does stay. But if 60m buys us two top drawer players to replace him, in areas which we need to strengthen, then I can live with it.

He ain't leaving. Jonno's development is synonymous with the teams development.

If Coops can extract another 10% from him, MGW, Yates, Niakhate, Danilo, Taiwo and, Mangala, and you have to believe he can, then we are set fair.

Again it's horses for courses for me. Yes against Arsenal it was an excellent defensive performance without him, but against Southampton in particular it was an excellent attacking performance with him.

Not sure I'd agree he's the worst of those three either. Maybe in a very short term sense at the end of the season, slightly.

It's difficult to comprehend how big those lads are until you actually see them; they're not just towers of men but Christ, they're behemoths carved from stone. Saw Lawrence dallaglio once in Cardiff Market when wasps were in town and I couldn't believe it. I played semi pro as well.

I went on a stag night years ago and Martin Johnson was on the same night out - the guy was enormous. Every time we went through a door he had to bend down and turn sideways to get through it! Cracking bloke though - just a normal guy.

Like I say recency bias.

Our best run of form was in January after the World Cup break when Johnson was on superb form.

Think you might be overestimating what £60m gets you in today's market. We'd probably have to spend a decent chunk of that just replacing Johnson with someone equally good.

Results were good in Jan (with a very kind run of fixtures) but performances were rubbish generally. The best we've looked this season has been in the last 5 weeks or so of the season when we added more mobility and dynamism to the midfield. Basically since the second half at Anfield.

The issue Cooper might have now, albeit a good problem to have, is if we sign a good left-sided forward then he'll have some real selection decisions to make. You'd be potentially looking at LW----MGW-----BJ behind Awoniyi but then it could leave us short in midfield.

Would you, with hindsight, swap Johnson for both MGW and Awoniyi if that was an offer on the table?

Yes, with hindsight, but both were unproven in the Premier League at the time of when we signed them. Those sorts of deals could go either way. Fortunately for us, both worked out but it won't everytime.

If we are wanting to sell one of our better players like Johnson this summer, we'd have to spend most of that money on his replacement if we are wanting something proven rather than gambling on unknowns. Two proven 'top drawer players' for £60m just isn't happening, realistically.

Even if we can keep all of them fit for the majority of the season we’d improve

Or Brennan not at any Price Johnson.

It's a strange one isn't it, because IF Brennan were going to leave us I think he'd want a move to an already established 'top 6' side. I can't see him giving up his life in Nottingham and all his ties here for a move to Brentford or Fulham and especially not Everton.
If they hadn't already spunked £60m on Anthony Gordon I would say I could see Brennan at Newcastle.

Overall, obviously we're all hoping he'll stay with us..but is it realistic? Would we be able to find a suitable replacement for him?

You could always tell he was a wrong 'un. Antony. Same as Bruno Fernandes. Horrible auras about them.

But United fans love that. Let them carry on. I bet they'll have a petition to bring Mason Greenwood back soon enough.

Worryingly I've seen a few suggestions of Greenwood to us from fans online. Madness and I'd hope it wouldn't even be considered

I think we should sell him for the right price. We looked better at the end of the season with MGW, Danilo and Awoniyi. Johnson goes quiet for too long periods during matches and doesn't work hard enough defensively.
