Easier to get into England when they play in red and white. YOU REDS!

Not just talking about tonight Ravi. More worrying for me has been a vast majority of our performances under Hodgson. I don't think we create as many chances nowadays either.
We have either under performed or have over hyped our players for an age and a day now.

Whoever the manager is our best chance is if they can make the team difficult to beat, as then we will have a chance of doing reasonably well in tournaments. I wasn't happy with the 442 v ROI but f***ing hell! 2-1! Come on!

You wonder how England are expected to create much when they start with a midfield containing Phil Jones and James Milner!

England struggle to keep the ball.

Possibly the first or maybe second period of sustained possession and passing football resulted in Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal.

As I said earlier I'm not just talking about tonight.

It's all so unnecessarily negative on this thread. We were shite against Ireland but it was an end of season friendly, it's hardly surprising. We've done alright so far tonight.

But that's when we give some our best performances. In meaningless friendlies and qualifying. Saving the poor performances for the major tournaments.

Much better second half anyway, when you have people like Carrick just in front of the defence and Chamberlain in midfield then it just encourages better possession.

Plus i think Phil Jones really needs to play in defence be it centre back or right back.

Great result. With Hart, Rooney, Carrick, Jones, maybe Ox and hopefully Wiltshire in the side we are capable of a good showing in the WC if we get there.

If we stopped shrugging our shoulders and saying penalties are a lottery and learned how to win a shoot-out, we're capable of doing well at a tournament. The majority of winners at international competitions have to win one on the way but we always go home.

Venables won one and as a result he's remembered as a good England Coach. If we'd lost that one (and Spain in fairness had played us off the park) he wouldn't be and we'd have moaned about English football's technical shortcomings. In this era Robson would have been given the chop after a tournament like Euro '88.

Hodgson won't be able to get us dominating possession against decent teams. We can't blame him for that failing. We've tried different coaches from different backgrounds - none of them could do that.

Yes and totally agree about the penalties. If shootouts were really a lottery why are England so often so shit at them. By chance alone we'd have won more by now. Bad luck? Don't think so.

Rubbish first half. Much better second half.

Who taught Walcott how to control a ball and cross? f***ing Ray Charles. Jesus, so much pace but a rubbish footballer.

Walcott's inability to do anything with the Football other than chase it was embarrasing. He looked like a shit version of Nathan Tyson.

Oxlade-Chamberlain looked good; bright, positive, inventive. I've no doubt he'll be shunted wide and wasted for the rest of his international career.

Another awful performance. Once again highlighting just how weak a pool of players has to choose from.

All we have for England are decent players - that is our biggest problem.

Walcott was hillarious with his running, head down, give the ball away shenanigans.

I must be watching on delay somewhere. I was under the impression we didn't lose against one of the most talented teams in the world.

Talented but by all accounts hopelessly out of form. One win in 6, against the likes of Chile and Bolivia and the natives calling for big Phil's head already.

I'm not sure what can be gained or discerned by these friendlies anyway. The arse end of the season, the players have one eye on the beach and half a mind on their latest contract negotiations.

England were shite in the first half, but once they realised this Brazillian team were constantly using long ball tactics the players were relieved to be facing tactics they're used to & readjusted accordingly.

Of course, when Brazil do it it's not hoofball but a long pass.

It's all about mid-table...
England did well after that first half in which they could have been four or five down. I knew they'd be up for it after the bad press they've had.

We seem to do better when the play is high tempo and our passing was quite crisp second half. Still have major doubts but I enjoyed the game.

When's the next bugger ??

Theo Walcott, another marmite type footballer. I would far prefer to see him deployed in a central position, where his blistering pace can be used to a greater effect, rather than the good old English fashion of a continued and predictable running of the channel on the right wing.

Fr any debate following, I rate Walcott and think he is an exciting footballer.
