Expected to sign shortly after mutually terminating his Watford contract.
Ben Watson is one of those ever present, no thrills, 100% effort giving, consistent, reliable, good footballers. One of those that you see play week in week out in the Premier League and think absolutely nothing of it like Andrew Surman, Steven Davis or Jack Cork. They'll occasionally pop up with a goal but usually you'll find them keeping play ticking along, they cost between £4.5-£5m in Fantasy Football and score about 70 points a season. He scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final for Wigan against Manchester City and then just went back to being regular Ben Watson the next week.
I really hope we sign him, model professional, the type I want our younger lads looking up to.
If we had signed him in the summer of 08 we wouldn't have been in a relegation battle and we'd never had succumbed to BD. Weird innit.
Could be all but done but the football league are catching up on yesterday’s paperwork maybe?Do we still think that this is likely to happen or is it likely the deal has broke down for one reason or another, I expected this to be announced today if it was still on. Really hoping it does come off as I reckon he could be the biggest difference for us out of all the players we got in.

That's when he first came to my attention. Very late goal to beat Man City.Scored the winner in an FA Cup Final also.

He's not a journeyman wanker either. When Ben Watson joins a club he tries to stay and fight for his place.
6 years at Palace initially, after working his way up through their youth team.
Then 6 years at Wigan.
Before he joined Watford for 3 years and was released.
We had a bid for him in '08, tried again a year later, then moved to Wigan from Palace in the Jan after iircWasn't it when Calderwood was here that we were strongly linked with him?

Apparently he wanted more money than we offered.

This would be the icing on an already sumptuous cake. Hope we can make it happen.

From what I remember I thought the free transfer window opens a day after the regular one shuts.
Traoré hasn’t been announced out or in either.
My Calderwood favourite was when Neil Danns said he didnt want to join us yet we didnt take no for an answer and bizarrely kept bidding for him every window.

You haven't seen my partner's best friendIt would be somewhat akin to pausing, mid-coitus, and your partner whispers to you “do you mind if my best friend joins us?”
Sounds like the actions of a man on POF.
