Purely hypothetically obviously, but which would you prefer? Every rational argument suggests promotion is the correct choice but for those of a certain age I hope you can understand why I'd rather beat those professional victim wankers.

100% promotion-it would lift the profile of the club enormously.
By the way,I'm of a 'certain age'-but I don't hate Liverpool(you can see what hate does in Ukraine).

A one-off victory over Liverpool would be an intensely glorious, but quickly forgotten moment in our history, that ultimately achieved little. (especially if we get thrashed by Man City in the next round)

Promotion would be, if managed correctly, the first tentative step towards really taking the club back to somewhere that it hasn't been for too long - and we could revel in the glory all postseason...(before getting whalloped every week in the Premier League)

I despise Liverpool and I don’t despise any other club not even derby although I love beating them, however I would prefer promotion as longer term it’s better for us.

If you said Promotion or FA Cup win that would be a far more difficult question because you can a premier league club for 20 years and not win anything and the point of footy is winning trophies so I’d pick an fa cup win.

Regarding promotion: be careful what you wish for (as my old Granny used to say, lighting another Capstan Full-strength, and swigging at the spitoon).
We get precious few proper Saturday 3:00 p.m. kick-offs as it is in the Championship, and away games appear to scheduled to deter travelling fans.
However, look at the Premiership: it is a division aimed at the upper middle classes in terms of spectators, and at the arm-chair disenfranchised fan of the working classes.
The Premiership is a TV sport, and if they could do away with spectators but retain the "live" atmosphere, the TV companies surely would.
I quite like watching Forest in the Championship, with a good chance we will see a few goals and a real chance of winning games.
And seeing us us victorious over the scousers is always a treat for me.
I also doubt that promotion is achievable this year anyway.
A Wembley trip is achievable... the F.A. Cup: you got to be in it to win it, and we are still in it!

Can't Play Left-Back
Promotion over any single result, no matter how satisfying it would be to beat those mardy-arse Scousers. If it were win FA Cup or Promotion, I'd go Cup though.

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
I’d love to beat the scouse scum.
But..
Do that and there’ll be clubs sniffing around Cooper.
Get promoted and he’s ours until we get relegated again

As much as I believe a cup game against the scum would be great for the fans, especially those of a certain vintage, the correct answer is get promoted as we would get to play the scum twice a year guaranteed.

I'm at a loss understanding why anyone wouldn't want us getting promotion(?) Especially older fans who should know that any of that talk around BC would have resulted in a slap.

Promotion is the single most important thing for this club.

Id take a ten nil battering by Liverpool and Derby if that was the sacrifice to getting promoted.

Promotion. It'll change everything for the players, management, club and city.

So I think its pretty clear cut Promotion over beating the scouse but what about Promotion vs a Cup win?

One comes with a £150m prize the other comes with a £10m prize.

No contest.

I dont think its embarrassing I dislike Liverpool on a non football level it transponds that. They arent a rival just a very horrible club at times. The whole scouse not english mantra is summing them up and you dont get that sentiment at Everton.

50 years ago I might have been tempted by an FA Cup win.Sadly, given the financial domination of the Premier
League I would now choose promotion every day of the week.

If the question was somehow miraculously winning the FA Cup vs Promotion it would be a more interesting discussion, but I'd take promotion over any one-off result against anyone. Just beating Liverpool means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Given how rare it is for anyone outside of the Sky Sports Six to win anything, an FA Cup win would still be really special, even if it doesn't bring the financial benefits of promotion to the Premier League.

Seeing Forest win the FA Cup (or any trophy) would be a dream come true for me, even though I know that promotion would be better for the club in the long term.

It’s not though, a mate of mine is from Liverpool way and has a season ticket, the last time we were in the play offs he told me a group of old boys were discussing us saying they hope we go up simply so they can twat us twice in a season.

I can assure you if we play them you will see the rivalry works both ways, maybe the new wave Liverpool fan who lives in Plymouth doesn’t care for us but the actual scousers who either lived through the era we knocked them off their perch or had their old man tell them it hate us.

On that note put me down for beating the scousers should we make it past hudds.

Get off, we seriously got under their skin back in the day.

I will take a win against them every day above anything, after the way they treated Cloughie.
