I think there was a thread about Craig's book "Be Good, Love Brian", but I don't have the skills to find it.
Anyway, my copy was delivered this morning.
Physically, the book is an object of beauty - well constructed with a lovely dust jacket.
I have only had time to read a few pages, but can say already the style of writing is spot on, and the content is absorbing, and thought provoking.
For anyone who hasn't ordered a copy, and is able to afford one, I would thoroughly recommend getting one.
Craig: I hope the sales rocket... it is a great read.

Thanks for that, obviously I'm biased but I do agree the book is beautifully put together.

Not sure if you've had the chance to read the rest but hope you enjoyed it just as much as the first part. I really did try to make sure the reader could almost be there.

I've avoided posting links to the publicity as I don't want to bombard the forum but for anyone interested, my two favourite pieces are an interview with Phil on Times Radio and there's a very good article in my local paper the Sunderland Echo.

Sky's Adam Bate also did a good piece.

Sales are going well, but reviews are slow coming which worries me a little bit that folk don't like it as much as I hoped.

The demise of the team, of Clough himself and the actions of the author. It's very nostalgic, really a journey back in time. There won't ever be another Brian Clough, of that there is no doubt.

Apologies I meant chapters and not paragraphs which you rightly picked up on. When I say difficult, it didn't spoil my enjoyment in any way at all, the subject matter just became trickier. Obviously you have personal difficulties, but what I meant was it brought back memories of how good we were, how lucky we were to have Brian Clough as manager, how special he really was. I can remember all the matches you describe. It's a bit of a feeling of loss looking back on those days now.

It's not for me to judge on your personal actions, nor should anyone else in my opinion. Let he without sin cast the first stone. Who knows how any of us would have behaved in the same circumstances.

I am about half way through now (I am the sort of reader who has several books on the go at the same time, at the moment I am into "Dune" (again!), Richard Dawkins' "Climbing Mount Improbable", and Turgenev's "Fathers and Sons", as well as your "Be Good, Love Brian".
I think the frank, in your own argot approach is the thing that makes yours a stand out book for me.
I was initially nervous it might be another "how can I make some dosh out of my encounter with Mr Clough", but it just isn't.
It is a frank, heqartwarming and heartfelt account not only of time spent with Brian, Simon, Nigel, Elizabeth, and not forgetting Mrs Clough, but also of a deprived and difficult growing up in the North East.
By the way, it's a good job you didn't grow up in Liverpool - it would then have been dismisses as another Scouse whinging!.
I have had tears of laughter, tears of sadness and my Mrs is champing at the bit to read it after me.

Just finished the book.
The more I read the less I could put it down.
No chores done this afternoon.
It is simply one the most brutally honest accounts of what life was like for Rigormortis, the dramatic change around in his life following Brian's, Barbara's, Simon's, Nigel's, and Elizabeth's intervention, and also how the lad they rescued repaid their kindness.
Also, it clearly illustrates just what a family atmosphere Brian engendered at Forest, with the players, coaches, medical and other staff all responding positively in following Brian's lead.
Mrs S is now sat in silence on the settee, deep into the book, and like me she is laughing out loud and sobbing away in turn.

As many have reported beforehand, my wife is ordering it for me for Christmas so I will need to defer the pleasure/pain of reading it.
From what I have read in comments Brian comes across as something of a saint and, indeed he clearly was an exceptionally good man.
However, like the rest of us he was a flawed human being as was brutally highlighted by Phil Scraton in a recent letter to the Guardian, referring to Brian’s stubborn refusal to acknowledge that Liverpool fans were not responsible for the Hillsborough disaster.
