Anthony David Junior Elanga

Redemption

One less gobshite...
I'm happy for people to blow smoke up his arse, but I was only concentrating on his productivity compared to Johnson.

He’s a great finisher but he’s still very raw, he goes from running himself into trouble and looking lost to scoring in seconds.

Still, can’t argue with his goal return so far.

Heard quite a few people say he's a downgrade on Johnson which i don't agree with

Different qualities of course but he's as much a source of goals as Brennan was from what I can see
If we sold Johnson for 45m and were able to buy Elanga for whatever fraction of that fee it was, then the rest of the footballing world thinks Elanga is a downgrade.

We got Elanga and £30m for Brennan. At the moment it looks a very good deal, but time will tell. How we invested the £30m is another discussion.

A modern day Franz Carr

Good when operating on instinct but as soon as he has to think, it doesn’t go well
He's better than the Franz Carr I remember* - he's young and inconsistent but has a positive approach to his play and finishes well. If we can iron out his kinks I think he can play at a higher level than us (and actually, he already has so that's a daft point really!).

All I remember from Carr* is that he was fast as f***, loved a Webby diagonal but didn't often do much once he had the ball?

All four of his goals have been well taken. He's a composed finisher.
The couple he's pinged off the bar were pretty decent hits too - think there may have been another one too, or another ruled out along with last week's.

He's doing better than I expected at this point, while still making mistakes here and there. I have to remind myself he's younger than Mighten every now and then.

I just wish we could have regularly had a front three of Elanga, Awoniyi and Brennan. I think maybe we had that once but that looks so good on paper. Like a Rushcliffe version of Mane, Firmino, Salah.

If he played today he'd be immense. He used to beat players for fun, often in very small spaces. His problem was he couldn't cross and his job was to get to the byline and cross it in. The game isn't like that anymore. He'd be like a superior Sterling.

Brennen Johnson scored 8 goals with 3 assists last year in the Premier league starting in 33 and coming on in the remaining 5 matches. Average of 77 minutes per game.

Elanga this year has got 4 goals and 3 assists in 18 matches, starting in 12 with an average of 66 minutes per game. Could have easily had a couple more if it wasn't for offside or hitting the post.

The 2 records are very similar and Elanga could even surpass BJ this season. He's a bit raw and erratic but has plenty of potential, has more skill as a winger and should improve in front of goal too. We shouldn't be feeling the loss of BJ looking at the above, if we can get the striker issue sorted in Jan and have better organisation in defence we should be OK.

He also puts in a shift defensively too. Can't ignore that if comparing directly with Johnson.

The offsides are frustrating when he’d beat most in a foot race but overall he’s been tremendous value

Great production so far in a struggling attack

We should be getting the ball out to him more often than we do. He’s had numerous fullbacks on yellow cards early on in games and we’ve then not managed to get him involved

Thought he’d be a squad option but he’s been one of the few definite hits in the last window

Do…do…doooooo….
