I'm not sure where this budget talk has all come from. I keep seeing posts saying we're spending our budget on player X or our budget is being stretched. I've never heard anyone at the club mention how much we have to spend this summer, if anything EM has said he's aware that we could end up needing to spend much more than the cash we'd simply get for being a PL club.

The impression I get is that there is no budget as such, more that if the right player is identified for the right price the club will try and do business. I'm sure there is a limit at some point but I don't get the impression a bean-counter at the club is saying 'one more biggun and then we're onto players under £2m'

FFP still exists in the Premier League, though I am not sure what the limits are and how far we'd have to go to breach it. We do have to factor in the possibility of relegation though; if we spend too much this summer it could lead to big problems in the Championship (with its stricter FFP rules) next year if we do go down.

Given that this lad is going to cost quite a bit, it does make me wonder if it would take away from the budget in other areas. Though admittedly, it is purely guesswork on my part.

Pretty far if the likes of Everton are anything to go by...

I think the owner can put in a fair bit if they so wish too...

I take your point on relegation though, I think generally the club has been smart with the transfers so far and that should the worst happen we're probably not paying huge wages and we have plenty of resale value in them providing they don't completely bomb.

A little bit of a head scratcher considering the signings so far, and apparent needs elsewhere. But presumably, it's all carefully calculated.

The limits are £105m losses over 3 years - but Everton have lost £372m over the last 3 and seemingly won’t receive any punishment?

Unless my maths is wrong and assuming we stay in the Prem for all 3 years we would have to spend north of £300m I am pretty sure, and deals will be spread over the length of contracts so you could say much more than that.

As for the Championship we should have 3 years to sort it out and get back up which if you spend the amounts we are you like to think it’s achievable.

So I don’t think it will be a worry for a while yet.

Looks the business this fella. Surely means no Toffolo coming in, but certainly looks like an upgrade.

Sorry I know this has probably been covered a thousand times but what does BUPA stand for? I always thought it meant they get injured all the time but just read it’s something to do with unreliable source.

It's hard to try and put together the puzzle when you can only see 25% of the pieces, sometimes these snippets of activity make little sense to us but make perfect sense behind the scenes. You have to remember every position has a list of potential targets all ranked in order of priority, some players on these lists require a lot more probing/negotiating/patience to become available

Toffolo was 'easily' available due to his contract situation and price, but I believe he wasn't towards the top of our priority list as we've been continuing to look at other options throughout the Toffolo activity. That doesn't mean we won't still bring him in, but it also doesn't stop us pursuing other targets that we've had our eyes on (if a move suddenly becomes possible)

For all we know we could have been in talks with Betis for a while and only now are we getting anywhere with a potential move. It's also worth remembering that business going on behind the scenes isn't done one player at a time, a lot of people seem to assume if we're busy negotiating a move for another LWB we're neglecting midfield signings etc which I can assure you definitely isn't the case

Sit back and enjoy the ride, trust those in charge and let's see what we're working with when the transfer window closes

It's the assumptions people make, which confuse the picture.

If you assume he can only play in one position, if you assume what the fee might be and if you assume it's all bollocks anyway, you might be wrong.

I'm going to watch Betis V Monaco at the Pro act next week. That in itself means Betis are in England, although not by any means an indication of its validity it could add a little more to it.

I'm going to that as well... But I'm pretty sure it's Marseille not Monaco!

How much do you think Moreno is likely to cost, or is worth?

Would we need to go well over what we were willing to pay in fees for Toffolo?

Transfermarket has his value at over £16m

You would have thought this is in the €20m range.

Definitely getting a better package that Toffolo, who I like a lot.

Wages also will be big for a senior player.

Cracking player if it comes off.
