The Bryan Roy trophy. Knocked foggia out in the semi final. Ajax beat foggia in the 3rd / 4th place game.
Let's hope they don't end up in jail then

In April 2021, Roy replied to a tweet about prime minister Mark Rutte, stating that Rutte would be shot through the head soon.[10] After this Roy was questioned by the police, to whom he declared that he believes Rutte should be executed, because of QAnon-conspiracy theories concerning him.[11] Because of his tweet, Roy was convicted of threatening the prime minister and sentenced to 80 hours of community service under two years' probation. Should Roy not fulfill his community service, he would have to serve 40 days in prison. In case Roy violates the terms of his probation, he will have to serve an additional prison sentence of four weeks.[12][13] After Roy failed to fulfill his community service, he was arrested to serve 40 days in prison.[14]

Apparently Nuno never saw his youth side play during his 4 years at Wolves.
If true suggests less emphasis on breeding our own.

Whilst that may be true, neglecting this area of the club is a bad idea IMO. It dug us out of the shinola many a times in the past, it may have to again one day.

Losing Gaz Braz was/is a huge blow to the club IMO, and if we're losing by 6 goals to the sheep then we've not really addressed his departure very well.

In fairness the Academy doesn't really look like it has anyone ready for the first team, or anyone close to being so.

Even before in the CH we did have Worrall, Yates and Johnson playing regularly in the promotion season and there was Mighten behind them and Fin Back played when Spence was ineligible but although we still have Worrall and Yates they are both now 25 and not kids, and even then it was a while since Johnson played for the Academy as he had a year loaned to Lincoln before being in the first team. Back got injured last season and is back on loan and Mighten hasn't really done anything in his loan spells neither have any of the other lads really. You can't see any of them making the step up whether they have been loaned out or not and whether or not Nuno is interested in watching the academy it's not going to get him any players any time soon.

I'd say that realistically it is Nuno's job to manage the first team and players and if any Academy players are potentially worthy of being considered to be around the first team squad then that is something for them to discuss in meetings between the first team and academy staff.

Not just about being first team ready though, equally as much about having a source of profitable players to help boost income for the club.

I guess any sale of an academy player is pure profit but in reality we aren't going to make a lot of money out of the likes of Shelvey and Mighten.

Not in terms of the money we got for others like Johnson, Cash or even Appiah

Having an academy that (more than) pays for itself has to be the first aim. We've certainly done that of late.

(and obviously what you want is to be churning out a Brennan, Cash, Burke etc every now and again too so it can impact on first team investment)

I think Josh Powell (LB) is most likely to step up. It will be a few years yet though, as he’s only 18. He didn’t look hugely out of place in pre-season.

Osong needs a good loan. He’s only 19, and as a striker could develop well over the next few years. Fast and powerful are both attributes that are very well suited to the premier league.

I thought a few of our CBs played for England U16s also.

Norkett (the lad from Man U)? Based on them letting Elanga go 😂

It does look like 2-3 seasons before anyone will be close to the first team though.

We're playing catch up with the youth system anyway. Not long Cat 1, not long a PL team.

We're buying £30m players now but the kids in our youth system who've been there longer than 2 years joined us when we were a Championship basketcase. Any kid back then from round here who was any good will have gone to Leicester or to London or Manchester based clubs.

It's going to be a good five years minimum before Forest are producing PL standard players from the academy and it's pretty unlikely Nuno will still be here by then such is the timeframe of a managers job so I'm not bothered in the slightest he ain't watching the youth team.

Not like there's anyone in it who's close to usurping a £30m midfielder or a world cup winner is it?

Looks like you could easily argue that the well has been dry for a while. Few of those nearing the age when they should be playing first team football look likely to get a game in the Championship, let alone the Premier League. That's not happened since GazBraz left the club, it was happening before it.

Yeah, it's an area we need to stop neglecting and get back in front with for sure

You say we're neglecting it but it might be that the kids just aren't developing. That does happen.

I remember there was a massive panic at Liverpool at some point - maybe 10-12 years ago as they had literally produces no player of note from their academy since Gerrard.

They've done alright in the last few years, but they did have a bit of a drought. You can guarantee that wasnt because they were neglecting the academy.

And the best kids from the region will have looked at Leicester and gone there in all probability.

Not just that but Worrall, Yates and Johnson all found their way into a Championship starting eleven more through luck than anything else as I'm each case over different seasons we basically had a shit squad and no money so they got elevated to the first team, in the former twos cases perhaps earlier than we wanted to.

It's different now, we'd be blooding kids in the Premier League not the Championship and were not forced into it as the squad has plenty of depth

Not to mention most of the kids coming through at the moment would have been in the academy for years, joining back when Forest were shit. Any genuinely decent player from the East Midlands would have ended up at Leicester for their facilities and PL status or even further afield if they were exceptionally talented.

It's going to take five years for us to even start producing players for this level I reckon.
