Being perfectly honest I don't think Cafu is good at anything. Not really a progressive passer and certainly isn't good at defensive duels. Zero goals so far.

I would say his best strength is driving forward with the ball but more often than not he gets the ball taken off him.

He would be OK in my works 5 aside team but ask him to last more than an hour on a half sized pitch seems beyond him.

I thought he looked really good when I first seen him but he flatters to deceive which is a pity coz I really wanted him to turn out to be a gem of a player.

Relying on Cafu in a holding role is not a good idea, had something like a 30% success rate with tackles and interceptions last season. Picks up yellow cards at a rate even Colback would be proud of and had overall less pass % than Yates.

I personally think Yates would be better used as someone to press higher up the pitch not allowing opposition teams time on the ball (something Krovi did well), or even as a box-box midfielder but even if we're pairing someone with Garner to be the defensive work horse there's absolutely no chance Cafu plays that role better than Yates does

Does Yates actually win tackles or does he just chase people around a lot?
Cafu looks after the ball far better than Yates and pings around dad more effectively and quickly than Colback or Yates. I agree he’s not great defensively but I’m not sure he’s any worse than the rest.

Someone I haven't spoken to in about 5 years felt the need to message me on Facebook saying Harroui is class when he saw we were linked with him

Hes shite and he's got a weird triangular neck. Perhaps he's related to a camel. Or maybe he keeps his keys and his bus fare in there. Under a zip.

I'm not sure that's much of a bar at the moment.

You have Colback, Yates, Cafú, Fornah, and, hopefully Garner. If this Harroui guy is bought, this would certainly mean that either Cafú or Fornah (on loan) go. Six midfielders is an overkill.

That would be too frugal. We have a bomb squad for exactly this kind of situation.

This is the championship, a brutal league where the games come think 'n' fast. There will be suspensions, injuries, options to change, from 7 subs at least x2 will be central players. Then there are 2 cup comps, ok may only be 2 games!

If any player from that list is likely to leave it will be Colback (only if/when we have singed Garner) next to move on will be Carvalho, (if another attack minded player comes in) Cafu likely to stay as can play in a few roles and will no doubt be on cheap money having come from Greece.

Who would get Colback, a 32-year-old (in October) player on Premier wages, a whole year outside football, and unspectacular performances after that?

Colback will be on Championship wages, albeit maybe at the higher end of the scale. suspect he is on similar to Arter.

Why would 'a whole year outside football' matter? It didn't stop Man Utd from buying RVN.

Colback appears the most likely to be allowed to leave from the midfield selections you made, If we had the solution on where he would go etc.. we would be running this club!

Turkish journo ruling out the Turkish teams, says Harroui will go to the Championship:

Personally I think it would be criminal if Fornah left whilst Colback and Yates remained at the club. I think Cafu can feel hard done by having played well with Garner last year too.

Should we get Garner and this Harroui bloke, I'd prefer those two plus Fornah and Cafu to be our four midfield options. Probably wishful thinking though, sadly.

The alternative to Flemming ?

I don't think so. He plays much deeper than Flemming.

You look at his strengths & weaknesses. Looks like the ideal player we are looking for as a defensive midfielder. Strong in the tackle & ability to carry the ball forward with pace.

Translation is as follows ‘ | Nottingham Forest is the club with which Sparta has an agreement about the transfer of Abdou Harroui. Club and player still have to agree. Harroui flies to England tomorrow. The rumor that Aston Villa has also reported is denied at the Castle.’

Please sign this bloke and Garner, then tie Colback and Yates onto a rocket heading into the sun.

Good stuff.

With him & Garner in midfield we should be able to kick on....provided el boringo defensive gets the boot (yes I'm pissed)

Looks pretty good. Him, Garner, striker, a left back, and a change in tactics and we might be able to avoid a relegation battle.
