Pity. Still, hopefully we'll stay at the City Ground now.

Yes whooppee we can stay at our current home with its geriatric mainstand and built-in-a-rush BC Stand, and designed by a blind man Bridgford Stand. Fan-bloody-tastic.

And if we want to improve our facilities, we have almost no extra space within which to do it, and crucially, we will have to pay for ourselves.

Well Brazilian women are f**ked in Qatar then.......(Actually that's highly unlikely unless of course the sand diggers pay for it)

2 Votes, this takes the piss. Losing with face is fine, but 2 votes suggest something else, dare I say deep pockets

God help visitors to Russia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_post-Soviet_Russia Basically, looking at the report there's serious open hostility towards the following:

Asians
Muslims
Jews
Chinese
Africa
Westerners in general

So, just about 90% of the worlds ethic groups are despised in Russia. Marvellous isn't it. Money counts for everything.

I understood the head of the English FA/Representative resigned in protest today.

Pretty much a two fingered salute at corruption, I'm sure Septic Bladder wont give a toss of course, however It's a clear statement of intent isn't it?

England also pull out of the agreed friendly with Thailand. Clearly the FA mean business

Hypothetical here. What if England attempted to challenge the self elected "world governing body" FIFA? In terms of finance England could actually achieve some success when you think about it.

Love it or hate it, the prem league influence is huge around the globe and so is English football in general. If the FA got their f***ing acts together FIFA can be challenged in terms of a new football tournament, a breakaway governing body where countries are individually represented. You will get some takers I'm sure, remember the world cup has 32 teams normally leaving roughly 160 countries left.

Have a tournament to run in parallel with the 2018 world cup, if you like the ones that didn't qualify....Scotland, Ireland, Wales, I'm sure some of the big guns won't qualify

FIFA would be f**ked overnight. Septic Bladder would be exposed. End of Corruption

No, I'm not pissed:)

Trouble is, to a lesser extent the FA is similarly a bunch of backscratching old boys with little morals or scruples.

Indeed they are Winnits but they have to start somewhere. I'm sure it's not just the English FA more than a little suspicious at the goings on at FIFA.
It's got legs I tell ya!

Hope so, I really do hope you're right. You would like to think that our standing in the football world will at least make some waves if we were to withdraw from FIFA affiliation or openly challenge them... personally I don't really give a rats ass about International Competitions in their current format.. so why not go for something more level-playing-field outside of FIFA machinations?

What I despise about FIFA, is it belief that it "owns" football. Therefore what FIFA says must happen. Democratically or corruptly:nowink:

FIFA does not own football

http://www.talksport.co.uk/radio/drivetime/blog/2010-12-03/should-england-leave-fifa

Lets face some facts. With the current crop of "talent" we have, it's highly doubtful we would get past the knockout stages of any world cup for the foreseeable future, therefore go for it, challenge these bastards and play them at their own game

Mr Murdoch practically owns the the prem league in reality, its his baby, also his baby Australia has been humiliated. With his backing and the FA's England should ditch FIFA

Check the link you can vote for it.
For me, it makes more sense. No matter what England do, our children will never get to see a World cup in England if we stay attached to this corrupt organisation

I see it is at 91% in favour of England pulling out...

Some good thoughts sammy -- a competition called the World Championship of Football run at the same time as the World Cup would be great - especially if you could get some of the larger Democratic Nations to boycott the FIFA World Cup and state it is due to corruption.

The stadiums look good tbf but....a nation of 1.4 million people who have never even heard of football against the USA (which has at least 40 people who have heard of football) and Australia which would have put on a right show.

The solution is clear. Sod bypassing fifa, make a new sport, like rugby did.
They have rugby league and rugby union why can't we have association football and society football. That way we can bring in tech, get rid of some of the stupid money based rules and reclaim football

Just seen an interview with Arshavin. I think it was about the world cup going to the wrong country so he was a little bit sad but mainly pleased - is there a site that translates meercat into english so I can check?

I have a different view - their bid was very football orientated but fundamentally flawed - they do not have the sporting credentials, the local infrastructure nor the size to hold a World Cup - 100 degree heat ? No girls allowed to show any skin ? No alcohol outside designated areas (unless you register as an alcoholic) and all stadiums within a bee's penis of one another. Football should be for the fans this is hardly the place I would want to go .

People have been detained by police for displays of affection in public, obscene language or gestures and, more frequently, alcohol-related offences - photographing public buildings and military sites is banned. Taking photographs of local people, particularly women, without permission and where there has been no previous contact, is illegal and can lead to arrest or fines.

-- if that is the sort of WC that FIFA want then so be it -- however I feel it is more likely that 14 FIFA delegates were paid a sh1t load of money and are currently smoking fine qatar cigars.

The voting system must be overhauled and become open and transparent - it is joke - the fix was in - all the other competing nations poured money down the toilet - what a waste.

Good post. They spoke of South Africa being dangerous for the travelling fan, but did you hear of any issues? Qatar is a much bigger risk - not because people could get hurt, but because they're likely to break religious laws on a very regular basis.

The "religious laws", whilst in place, are at the behest of the Qatari government.

There is *no* law in Qatar against drinking alcohol, only against drinking alcohol in public places. Funnily enough, there are similar laws in *this* country (albeit not so strictly enforced!)

You can drink beer in Qatar, most of the hotels have their own Bars, aimed primarily at tourists. FIFA are aware of this, and serious discussions have taken place as part of the bid-process between FIFA's inspection team and the Qatari government.

The feeling is that there will be "official" fan parks (as there were in Germany '06 and South Africa '10) where fans will be able to congregate and - if they wish - drink beer.

Also the laws on displays of affection are there primarily to protect the local population (daft as that sounds). The Qatar government have confirmed that visitors to the World Cup will not be overly prosecuted for such behaviour, as long as it is not publicly indecent (so no getting your a**e out on the beach, like that infamous couple did in Dubai!)

Also with regards to photography the 'rules' are not dissimilar than what you might find here, in that you cannot in the UK photograph military installations, nor can you photograph members of the public against their will.

It's very easy for people to take the negative stereotypes of the middle east and jump on an "it will be crap" bandwagon; but you have to realise one thing in Qatar's favour; money will be absolutely no object to them, and they are going to use the World Cup to positively show the Qatari state, and the rest of the Emirates (to better attract further development and business there).

It will be an interesting World Cup, that's for sure, and for those who say that Qatar has no football tradition; neither did Japan before they won the World Cup bid to host 2002, and look at the growth of the J-League now!

Of course, Qatar is a much smaller state than Japan, but there's no reason to suspect that a World Cup would not boost the popularity of the game there!
