23/24 Premier League Pre-Season Thread

I’ll go if I can figure out how to cut my holiday short and jump ship from Vienna to Eindhoven.
I also heard it’s NAC Breda on the Friday before.

What I've been told is the following (copy and paste from WhatsApp)

Ok I’ve got all the fixtures,28th July is NEC, and 30 July is PSV. We also play Valencia and Levantine in Spain but behind closed doors. We will also play Rennes on 2 August and FC Koln away on 5 august
Makes sense to start playing away in Europe again.

Bugger! Why the Spanish games behind closed dooors...hmmmm. Hope they change that.

Just for the sake of doubt; the articles about the friendly in Frankfurt refer to the „Waldstadion“ - this is the original name of Eintracht‘s ground, which is nowadays for commercial reasons known as Deutsche Bank Park (just in case anyone was confused).

You can reach the stadium in under ten minutes from both the Frankfurt International Airport and from Frankfurt Central Station too, by S-Bahn (the commuter trains) which run typically every ten minutes or so. There is very limited parking around the stadium (you are better off, if you‘re in a car, parking elsewhere and getting the S-Bahn).

There are daily flights from Birmingham Airport to Frankfurt Airport (at least twice a day recently) with Lufthansa. Oh and if you‘re looking for flights, make sure you specify Frankfurt-am-Main (FRA), and not Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN), as Frankfurt-Hahn (where Ryanair flies to) is about 120km from Frankfurt and is woefully served by public transport (unlike Frankfurt International, which has excellent transport links by road and rail).

I’m looking at going to PSV depending on ticket situation. Stanstead looking like the best option. Any other suggestions?

Yeah Stanstead is the easiest option.

£130 cheaper to go from Stanstead for the Frankfurt game as well instead of flying from Birmingham.

Or a nice 10 day tour through Brussels, Eindhoven, Frankfurt then Luxembourg by car if you like driving!

For those in that there London, who want to go to Frankfurt, you can fly from Heathrow to Frankfurt as well as to Stuttgart via BA and Eurowings, so plenty of options available.

Actually in Germany on the weekend of the Frankfurt game. Got excited until I saw that Berlin and Frankfurt aren't exactly next to each other...

Four and a bit hours on the ICE Omar. Or you could get a flight from BER to FRA.

These pre-season games seem to have no pattern, either regarding the quality and style of the opposition or the places the games will be played.

Has anyone any theories as to how and why these games have been planned?

They are all Away…that’s my theory. PSV (2nd), Rennes (4th) and Frankfurt (7th)…decent standard also.

Fair old trek on the bus between games.

You have forgotten the away day at Meadow Lane versus the Magpies.
No distance to travel for that one (unless you a Deutschland residing moderator, not vacationing in Rudd).

I also wonder if we were waiting to see if we stay up or not and schedule pre-season friendlies then. Would PSV play against a championship side.

Other teams have probably planned their pre-season tours in advance. So then we have to ask around and fit in where we can. Once we become a more established PL side, we can plan tours etc better.

Pure speculation of course, without really knowing how these friendlies are put together.
