Giovanni Alejandro Reyna

Lightweight and ineffective.

Totally agree, although difficult to properly judge him on yesterday's performance because he isn't a winger for sure, and MGW and him seemed to get in each others way.

Not my point, but valid when looking at our tactics and Reyna. He may have looked better if MGW had rotated positions, or dropped deeper, with him to make life more difficult in marking MGW out the game. But really aren't a smart team, as we also showed when we kept vacating the central midfield space.

Probably suffering from the "don't want to make any mistakes after being starved of any action up till now" syndrome.

In a powderpuff team he's stood out as being the most powderpuff of them all.

Needs to find a league which isn't as physical and pressing as the PL.

The German league is probably the closest to the premier league too so you can understand why he doesn't get in a look in over there. He's probably more suited to La Liga

I find it really odd that he came with a reputation of being aggressive - he's so far from that. Looks more a Barry McKay type to me.

Fwiw I'm a bit sad it hasn't worked out, if only because numbers say he can play the left side and backup through the middle... two places we need good cover/competition.

Not too much game time for the lad but what little I saw wasn’t too good.
Think it’s a case of a return trip to Dortmund for him but I doubt he will get in their side either.
Probably needs to go Stateside.
Or stick around in Europe, waiting for the day when the American media/gambling tycoons insist of rule changes to favour the lightweight players.
There are so few examples of American players who have really made an impact in Europe.
Everyone will trot out the same few names... but the numbers are few.

I think its a learning curve for all really.

For us, players coming in from other leagues need to acclimatise to the pace and intensity of the English game generally speaking so its a risk to bring them in and expect anything other than what he has delivered since January - I'm not sure if anyone gained from this move apart from his agent and perhaps that was the idea anyway.

For him it's probably that he needs to be picky about his moves, a safe midtable team like say Fulham might have found a use for him given that they might need to replace Tom Cairney and Willian at the end of the season but it was clear that as strugglers we didn't have an obvious role for him and his skillset. Because of this we probably exposed the weaker points of his game too.

It hasn't worked out, it didn't look like it ever would really but there is definitely a player in there imho.

He'd be alright at Ajax or PSV. Somewhere with a little bit less intensity, more time on the ball etc.

I can't imagine anyone two years ago thinking we'd struggle to find a place in the squad for Gio Reyna from Dortmund. How times change.

He's not grasped the opportunities given to him. But hes also hardly been given a great platform.

Clear that Nuno didn't fancy him from the off. Which is a shame as he's a quality player and the sort we should be working hard to make the most of.

If you can't be arsed to track runners and/or defend from the front you aren't going to get many minutes at this level.

Another wank, completely unsuitable Mendes signing. Might be good in 4 years time given the right circumstances and a ton more development, but to bring a kid like that here when we were scrapping for our lives was a complete joke.

Honestly, it feels like Forest are the 6th or 7th season/entry in Mendes' portfolio. The last season of Games of thrones, the shitty new Star Wars trilogy, the Metallica grunge years. Just a load of dialed-in shit to make bank at the expense of the gullible on the back of past glories.

The other way to look at it is that we had no money to manoeuvre with, needed attacking options and took a punt due to mates rates.

He's played 90 times for a Dortmund team that would rip us apart. So it's not a 'level' thing.

As I said, he didn't take his chances but we aren't going to sign perfect players, we have to make the most of undeniable talent when we have it

If he'd been working hard maybe he'd have got more of a chance. There's a player there but sadly lacking effort.
