He's played 90 times for a Dortmund team that would rip us apart. So it's not a 'level' thing.

As I said, he didn't take his chances but we aren't going to sign perfect players, we have to make the most of undeniable talent when we have it
They have to make the most of their chances, and not putting the yards in isn't going to earn them more time regardless of how talented they might be.

Is there a decent player in there? I'd say so on my brief viewings - he's very composed. Undeniable talent needs the right attitude and workrate, and there are big question marks over both for me.

The other way to look at it is that we had no money to manoeuvre with, needed attacking options and took a punt due to mates rates.
With friends like Mendes, who needs enemies?! Call me old fashioned, but I don't tend to utterly screw my mates over at every given opportunity.

Olt toilet walls:
An old boss of mine had a shock in his late teens when his mother grabbed him after going to the ladies in the town's shopping centre, asking him "What's all this about you (his full name was written there) being the best shag in Tiverton?

Another name in a very long list of forgettable Forest loan signings.

I hope we use the loan market much more wisely next season. Last season we did well in getting the likes of Henderson, Lodi and Navas on loan and the season before we got the likes of Garner, Zinckernagel, Spence and Davis to help get us promoted, whereas all of our loan signings this season have been duds.

The only one who’s done anything like well out of the „Mendes Connection“ is Jorge Mendes‘ Bank Manager.

Mendes‘ eyes must light up when his phone rings and it’s Forest on the blower.

Another one I'd forgotten about. So possibly not worth keeping.
If Reyna & Ribeiro were coming through the Academy ranks, I'd be delighted with the way the Academy was finally beginning to produce young lads with talent.
The problem is, they haven't come through the Academy, and would cost quite a lot of money to buy, and they are still only Academy standard.
In Forest's position, every transfer fee has to bring in a 1st team ready talent.

Danny Taylor clears it up then: "Reyna was signed because Nuno was terrified, put bluntly, of MGW getting injured – and he was another wide option.”
Another panic signing by the sounds of it then.

Hopefully we're planning more thoroughly this window, and the top brass allow the footballing people to execute their plan without then burdening them with more, unnecessary signings too.

I was slightly surprised that Reyna didn't feature on the left for us when he played, with CHO switched: hindsight says it was the right call though given CHO's form, even if Reynas returns are much better down the left.

If I'm playing devil's advocate - a panic loan signing who is here for 6 months is some sort of progress over multiple panic permanent signings on three-five year contracts.

Cover signing rather than panic I'd say. Decent option if Morgan injured.
Option? Yes. Decent? Debatable.

Same as Akpom, club needs to have better backup options like this lined up if it's genuinely intent on meeting it's ambitions of a top half finish.

Very true, a step in the right direction at least.

I don't agree it was a panic signing as such.

Nuno clearly identified a need for cover for MGW and with FFP restrictions on us in January - As well as long term risks given our position I think Reyna on loan was a very pragmatic option if he was bought in to provide that cover when we couldn't fit someone permanently into our financial situation.

It's not unreasonable to speculate that the club are highly likely targeting a player to not only properly understudy Gibbs White but also provide options elsewhere along that line of attacking midfielders.

True.

Maybe if they'd have trusted someone else apart from Mendes, we would have landed someone who actually contributed.

Oddly, I'm fine with him not contributing - but only because the players who kept him out of the team contributed enough (whilst avoiding injuries and suspensions) that he was kept as a contingency. He's not our player, so I don't really care about any effects that the spell may have had on his career.
The only time we might have needed him to contribute, was those games when Origi was on the wing - and as that was when he'd only just arrived at the club, then he clearly wasn't ready.
