Cheikhou Kouyaté

Freuler is a good, even class, midfielder.

But he hasn't been a good fit with the premier or our midfield.

I say recoup as much of his fee as we can and move on.
Yeah that's fair if we can get a sale, I just think he offers realiable/good cover. Doubt the player would want that though probably best for all to move on.

If the Saudis offer a few quid I wouldn’t cry about him leaving.

Came in to offer us experience in a young side last year and we stayed up so job done.

This coming season the whole squad are more experienced so we might not need an aging Kouyate anymore.

I think what you're failing to see is our style of play. We need to see if we change that in the coming season, it may well suit our style far more going forwards

Maybe.

As I said, I am not debating his quality.

But.

In a midfield of 3 (let alone 2,) the first names that fill the sheet are Yates and Danilo.

And we know Freuler does not "click" with them.

I don't know if that can be addressed by a change in style.

But changing personel, would be insane. You don't switch out the 1st and 2nd choice to accomodate you 3rd.

I'd keep Kouyate unless he's determined to leave.

Hi seeing his contract out before a final big Saudi payday would be the best outcome all round.

It's easy to write on here dump so and so and then buy this bloke, but it's not always as easy as that, as we know all too well.

I agree certain moves in and out would be ideal, but the deafening silence at NFFC indicates that it isn't that easy to accomplish.

I know we are hoping for knock your socks off signings to accompany the kit reveal, but I expect the kit reveal to be a bit of a damp squib, seeing as we already know what to expect, and the signings to be of a similar quality.

On the fence. He's getting on a bit and probably backup option, but no point getting rid for a small fee unless it goes towards a significant upgrade.

Presumably we're going to persist with similar tactical set-up to last season which means we'll need a smart holding player and two energetic box to box midfielders, with backups for all of those.

DM: Mangala, Freuler
RCM: Yates, Kouyate
LCM: Danilo, LOB

Assuming Shelvey still on the bomb squad pile.

Personally if it was me I'd want an upgrade on Mangala in the DM role. Mangala can then be a backup to both that new player and potentially a backup to Yates if Kouyate goes. But even then you probably want another midfielder to come in as your only backup options are Mangala and LOB...

... So why not just keep Kouyate? Seems more sensible to just lose Freuler in my opinion.

I'd imagine LOB is in the same boat as Shelvey, just with less animosity.

LOB is not going to play for us, the 25 man squad will dictate there is no room for him whatever scenario plays out.
Think the fact that the club included an option to buy in the deal we had with Blackburn in January also indicates that he is not in the club's plans going forwards. You don't include that sort of thing in loan deals for players you want to keep around.

I agree with you all but as it currently stands we don't have a LCM backup to Danilo.

LOB hasn't burned bridges with the club so it's currently his spot. He might well get shifted, but I think he's in the 25 ahead of Shelvey at the moment.

If you can invert wingers and full backs then i'm sure being right footed and playing on the left in the middle is fine. LOB is a goner and i'd suggest both Freuler and even Shelvey might be ahead of him.

Shelvey wouldn't be in it either, we have 3 extra players that need registering without signing anyone. The backup players are probably going to have to be U21's.

If he does go, he'll deserve a little place in our hearts for that brilliant performance against Liverpool at the City Ground. He was the heartbeat of a victory that made it possible to think of Forest again as a top-rank club. That game alone was worth whatever we've paid him.
