Fryatt Signs

If something is offered to you for free then it's generally of lesser value than if you have to pay for it. But this has little relevance to Fryatt (although worse players tend to leave on a free) I just don't think he's much better than what we've got and his stats back me up

You have seen Cox stand offside for the majority of games, and struggle to get himself in the box, or Henderson blow up on the field and either get sent off or look like he is going to get sent off. Then there is Dexter Blackstock who is sort of dead.

20,000-a-week is over a £1million a year though, if that is a true value. £20,000 for a player at this level is ridiculous. We must be the only club left in the division offering these types of fee's out too.

I hope he does well, I really do. But, let's not count our chickens.

When you put it like that then I agree to a certain extent, that Cox is absolutely dire and we got ripped off with him. Compared to Hendo though I don't think he's any better.

Who is a proven goalscorer who we should be looking at then in your opinion? (Not fishing I'm genuinely interested)

I doubt it. The three relegated clubs will be offering more, and I suspect Blackburn and Bolton, with parachute money, will be offering big money too.

Many will look at QPR - wage bill bigger than Atletico Madrid - and think big wages = promotion.

Especially people like Cardiff.

Aye, probably chuck Wigan in there too.

Realistic Red, it's alright saying "he's costing us 1m/year" or whatever, but that's still nowt compared to what you're likely gonna pay to land a Prem forward now. He'll instantly be worth around 1m in terms of transfer valuation anyway, so it's an investment we could cash in on if we needed to anyway.

Say he's only worth 500k, flog him mid-season and you've all the play & goals he contributed for nowt. Win-win.

We've got one striker with absolutely zero confidence and one that is perilously close to being over the hill, so I'd say he's much better than what we've currently got

And Wigan, Brighton...

It depends on budgets, etc.

But, I'd prefer someone like Vydra, Kane, Kovak...etc that ilk.

Vydra based on 1 good season for Watford didn't do much in the Prem for West Brom 3 goals in 25 wasn't it? Hardly call that proven...

Kane again proven on what? 4 goals last season for Spurs in 19 and 2 goals in 21 for Leicester before that.

I guess so. But, all the same, I've prefer to sign them than Matty Fryatt. It was 3 goals in 6 starts for Kane, but he's done now Sherwood's moved on.

Well, truth be told, it's all speculation at the minute.

We won't know until the season starts. I think people were more excited about the Cox, Miller, Derbyshire...etc signings than Fryatt though. So, I think it pays to be a little cautious.

That's an ambiguous argument as it can apply to every single signing, even whoever your preferred alternative to Fryatt is.

That, however, IS a perfect example of "speculation", as you've no evidence whatsoever that he was offered those terms.

Yep it is pure speculation he was on 12 k at Hull so you imagine he wouldnt take a pay cut I dont know again its conjecture I am more than concerned that we go into the season as Fryatt being our lead striker.

I have a gift horse that I am trying to give away. Is there anyone on this forum qualified to look into its mouth for me?

I'd be inclined to agree with you, although it never fails to amuse me how people casually throw these type figures around on the internet as if they're privy to such confidential information.

id imagine he would have taken a wage drop for guaranteed first team football

I think this is a great signing. If we had fryatt playing the lone role for us this season especially pre February injuries he would have scored loads. I hope this thread gets dug up in a year and people can't believe they doubted him.

Great signing well happy , Some nobs are always going to knock him just because we haven't signed a 21 year old hot shot, But we are in the second tier of English football and at this level Fryatt a f***ing good signing.

I doubt that, he never struck me as someone who would perform particularly well as a lone striker. Works best alongside a Target Man.

But I agree that he's a very good signing for you, would have liked to see him back here as back-up.

It depends what you mean a fecking class signing would he get into the starting line ups of Fulham, Norwich, Cardiff, Wigan, Reading, Derby? He is a decent back up though and if he played all the minutes that Cox played we would have scored more goals so he is an improvement on what we have but he wont get us out the division and get 20 plus goals, we need better options with him for an all round front line and his wages must reflect that.

I'm being very presumptuous here but he also seems like the kind of guy who will make no fuss. Seamless transition into the dressing room. It's all well good signing someone like Macheda, but you're getting baggage with it. Cardiff seem like a team full of overpaid individuals

Pearce said he wants honest players who will play for the shirt and I reckon Fryatt fits into that category

Are we really questioning the signing of Fryatt? I'd say whatever we're paying him will be something Pearce feels will represent value for money, and looking at last season we were relying on Cox and Henderson for the goals and that was just painful. Halford looked a better striker than both put together, so now we actually have a proved striker, in English football, I'd say it's positive!
