Or maybe not, but he moved back, decided after 3 months of no-one wanting to sign him anyway, to take the offer somewhere else to continue his career rather than sitting on the scrap heap without a club?

Exactly-cut the guy a break. None of us knows what was offered when he was here or indeed what his personal circumstances were. He probably found himself with fewer options than he had hoped for.....

If you dig around a bit mate, it's not hard to find that this was coming from the back end of Lamouchi's reign.

I buy into the "He was homesick" line as much as I do "The precious commodity of time" and "6/10 is an insult of a rating to our outstanding recruitment"

Maybe he just didn't take kindly to being frozen out the team after refusing to go to Olympiacos.
He's a solid left back, I'd be chuffed if we resigned him but he'll stay well clear now.

Maybe when the contract talks were happening he wasn't allowed to fly home to be with family if he trained in England and now the covid rules have changed he is happy to play there because he can fly back whenever to see his young family.

It's like people don't read the news or think that like any job family comes first and you make decisions based on the circumstances at the time..

Exactly.

People sometimes forget that to the players it's mainly just a job and they have other priorities in their personal life/family etc etc. Not being able to go home because of travel restrictions must be a big thing for the players who are quite young really, adults in their early 20s/30s is probably much younger than most of us on here.

Just tell the guy, "I'm sorry we wanted to f*** you off to Greece, we really need a left back, come home babe all is forgiven."

As many of us on here predicted, letting Ribeiro go (or at least not trying harder to keep him) would be a big mistake, and so it has proved.

Why EM or Vrentroz tried to force him out I'll never know, just shows the lack of common sense these people have and how their poor decisions have negatively effected the club.

Playing pretty poorly for 16 months or so probably had something to do with his departure as well.

Personally don't think he was poor at all, I think he was unfairly judged after a season where he over performed followed by one where he under performed (after being unsettled). In reality he was somewhere inbetween. To get the most out of your fullbacks ideally you need them to build partnerships with the man infront and Ribiero didn't have that (instead the player he linked up with the most during his time here was Silva).

Defensively he was solid, could receive the ball in tight spaces and play out of them comfortably and he had the energy to get up and down the line all afternoon. His biggest weakness was lack of end product. But as always if he was a well rounded full back that could do the business at both ends he wouldn't have been playing for us

I'm not just saying it because we're crying out for any form of competent LB but in my opinion he's a player we miss a lot

Had a couple of off games and was possibly affected by the team’s poor form and his Portugese mates leaving but individually, he was solid, consistent, passionate and I wish he was still our left back now.

He was out of contract though. Would you commit to a 2/3 year deal on a player who has underperformed for half of his original contract? I agree with you on him being a tidy Footballer, although I thought he was pretty meh defensively & his quality in the final third was very poor.

I wish it was Ribs and Ian battling it out, not f***ing Bong. God damn it why BONG. WHY.

Agree, he was a good player full stop. Not good enough for the Orem but plenty good enough for a top 6 championship side.
Shame he left.

Well he's moved to a club over twice the distance away from his family as Forest were, around 1500 miles away to over 3000 miles away, so he was clearly "homesick"

Maybe them being Polish champions and European football regulars helped.

Similar to Oly being Greek champions & Champ league regulars, who he turned down?

I'm much more inclined to believe that it's because that's not a club run by our top brass, who also run Oly too.

I’m in Madeira at the moment and our tour guide was saying yesterday that when all the other countries were in lockdown, the only tourists coming in were from Poland.

So maybe he can fly back and forth to Portugal easier? I can’t be bothered to check Poland’s covid travel restrictions….

Answered your own question there.

All I care about is that he’s left and we’ve got Bong instead

Personally think Hughton ditched him because he was a bit short and was deemed an aerial liability.

Was by far and away our best left back of the four we had. Completely stupid he spent last year not playing and then was let go for free, and our only left back now is the worst of the four left backs we had.

Only Forest...
