GAFF LAD. "Open your knees and feel the breeze"
Furthermore Gary, I go back to the old Nottingham Thursday League days when I turned out for the City & Sherwood Hospitals side for a season (I qualified to play because I worked there on construction job on a long-term contract) against teams like Notts Police, Players, Raleigh and Nottingham Fire Brigade amongst others and, significantly, Forest Colts, which was essentially represented by a combination of club apprentices and first-year professionals and the occasional trialist.

That was a unique grounding for those young lads, playing against a mixture of ex-non-league players and wannabes. To say it provided a tough, robust test for them is an understatement.

Would your dad have had any involvement with that competition during his time at the CG?
Nice one Frank, thanks for this, very interesting. It was Paul Hart that bought my dad to the City Ground.

Obviously I'll be watching a lot of young Will next season and will pop in every now and then with updates.

Looked sharp yesterday, not sure he'll be first choice starter but quite fancy once he gets into the side he'll be there for a while.

What do those who've seen him play think of him?

Fans always operate acamedy players.

He seemed to me one of those players who had an u certain future.

I'm not saying they're similar in anyway, but many fans were convinced Matt Thornhill had a great future as Left Winger. Featured for us maybe 20 times, went on various loans, which nothing happened for him. We released him, 3 seasons on so later was playing non league. He now plays for Basford in 7th or 8th tier.

Yes guilty here, I thought Matt Thornhill would be a regular here, although I thought he had some great games in CM.

Not sure about whether he had the right attitude?

Shame really.

Its funny because it wasn't long ago that the "hive view" on this forum was that loans were unnecessary for many of these players. in particular we were talking about Mighten, who in my opinion has been absolutely crying out for a loan over the last few years.....
Which all totally ignores that he picked up a bad injury at a crucial time. If he gets the same injury out on loan he still gets no game time. The reality is he'd have played a lot last season, especially under Cooper. He was really unlucky we were challenging for promotion on his return because points were too precious to throw in a player rebuilding his match fitness.

Situation is different now because we're at a totally different level so game time likely to be very limited. Even so Cooper seems to really rate him so he might still be kept around rather than loaned out.

Maybe Ray.

I guess he looks to me like hes been a little stuck over the last couple of seasons and hasn't developed. There can be many reasons for that and injury is one but another is the pressure of playing under the expectations at Forest and at the level we demand. Regular loan football is a way of breaking that...
One thing I don't like being used as mitigation is age-I know Mighten is only 20 but look at todays signing-williams is only 21 and once you are deemed up to first team level that's when the clock starts...
