Short shorts; converted swimming togs, actually. I don't believe in dumping my clothes until they fall to pieces! Went into the library the other day on the way to do some gardening and my gardening trousers were so worn and torn that even the straight-laced librarian lady felt compelled to mention them. She thought I was well up with the current fashion.
Add to that my very tatty sunhat (as donated by the girlfriend, later wife, of the cricketer Kevin Curran) and I was the picture of sartorial elegance!
I was thinking of the kit Swan was wearing under his shirt and shorts and thought they were a very good idea. I was out this morning in the frost, but soon warmed up because I was moving fast (!?) at a steady pace and keeping warm, whereas the players in football have a sort of stop-start movement which requires sudden bursts of extreme activity which could cause muscle strain in very cold temperatures.
