IAN McParland is staying tightlipped about which of his three new strikers will start against Bradford City, but has smiled: "It's a great choice to have!"
The Magpies have signed Luke Rodgers, Lee Hughes and Karl Hawley ahead of the new season.
Rodgers has been in blistering form during pre-season, scoring seven goals.
And he has already formed a good partnership with Lee Hughes, who netted on his home debut in a friendly against Forest.
McParland could stick with them against the Bantams at Meadow Lane on Saturday.
But Hawley insists he is fit and ready to be thrown straight into the team, after joining the club on a three-year deal from Preston North End.
McParland said: "It's great for me to have good strikers to choose from.
"It will be a tough decision but I'd rather have it like that.
"It's up to the boys to earn a place."
Delroy Facey, Sean Canham and Ben Fairclough complete the Magpies' six-man strike-force.
And McParland has not ruled out bringing another striker to Meadow Lane.
"We need a strong squad because we will get injuries and players will lose form – and you can never have enough strikers," he added.
"We lost games we dominated last season because we didn't stick the ball in the back of the net and gave away silly goals.
"Hopefully we can cut that out – and score more goals this season."
McParland is looking forward to the new campaign.
"We've got a tough start and there will be no easy games," he said.
"People have made us favourites but this league is going to be really tough this year."
