What position do you think we will finish in the league this season?

YES

Why do people paint him as some unreasonable buffoon.
I've never understood this either, particularly when it comes to managers

There are rumours he was ready to pull the trigger on Coops but we don't really know that's true do we? When it comes to it he's made the right call and backed him whenever he's needed to, can't ask much more than that

If anything under EM's reign we've given managers more time than they deserved

Not you personally Captain but if becomes a collective opinion then it'll give Marinakis the belief the fans are on his side and he may think about his decision less than he otherwise would.

You may argue that he doesn't care what the fans think but evidence from last season probably shows otherwise.
I definitely believe that EM takes the fans' views into account.
However, I think the vociferous support in home and away stadiums alike is the critical factor in shaping EM's decisions.
I am less sure that posts on this forum will hold great sway.
And for me, survival is enough for me - for this season at least.
It is a bit of a cliche to say "avoiding relegation is the main target".

Look where Leeds are right now and ask them if they'd have considered 17th last season a failure
But why do we want to measure ourselves against those who have failed?

It's like the whole stadium capacity discussion, with some suggesting we shouldn't build it too big as it would be empty in The Championship. How is the club ever going to progress if we are always allowing the fear of failure to hold us back?

The point I'm making is staying in this league shouldn't be considered a failure, particularly for a club who have only recently come up

Can't help but feel there's a bit of entitlement creeping in when after twenty three years away and only one season back some fans would consider staying in this league a failure

Exactly.

We don't want to be troubling the bottom 3 and we're unlikely to be bothering the top 6.

The following season all prem teams will start with 0 points - and as long as we're there with them that is all that matters.

I wouldn't describe 17th as a failure of a season but it would certainly be a disappointment to be so narrowly avoiding relegation after our start and the investment into the squad, particularly if there's no development to our playing style.

I'd say it's more about points than position though. We got 38 last year so the aim this season needs to be 39+.

It's a decent debate to be having, this one.
Basically:
1 17th and survival is the bottom line, because we can't afford to go down;
2 Better than 16th is a wish for, and is what the Club should be aiming for;
3 Top half is probably unlikely.
Cheers all, and Come on You GARIBALDI RED MEN!

I think, based upon what I have seen this season, and what we have brought in, that finishing 12th to 9th is a reasonable expectation. A big part of that will be taking three points vs Burnley at home, and doing the same in similar matches. WE can't be in second gear in these games. Hopefully we learned something vs Sheffield United, as that was easily the least talented side we have faced so far and it was our worst league performance. They are organized and seem well managed, but we should have been much better. WE can't repeat our league cup performance against Burnley. I didn't see it but the stats were not overly kind, let alone the result.

It's all about mid-table...
Not sure if I've made a guess in this?

But always best to see how we are shaping up.

I think top half as long as RY is fit and the filthy vultures don't come knockin in January.

I think Coops would resign if Yates was sold.

Taking odds for relegation as a reverse proxy for finishing position; when we started the season, the bookies had us 16th or 17th (4th or 5th favorites to go down)

After the Chelsea win, we are now 13th and top of the likely guys fighting relegation. Hard to see us finishing ahead of any of the teams above us this season (maybe Palace?) . Lot will depend on injuries

Main thing is showing progress and upward trajectory.

Forest are magic on and off the pitch!

Keeping Awoniyi fit and in form will be important. Also a lot depends on how quickly our new signings adapt but I'm a lot more confident we won't get dragged into a relegation scrap this year. Happy with 10th-15th.

There's an interview for SkySports with Callum Hudson-Odoi doing the rounds.

He is asked whats the target for Forest this season.

He answers, top 10. 👀

It's not clear if it's own assement or the club's but he does qualify with the expenditure and the players etc. 🤷

Last season’s aim was to survive, this season is made harder because they’ll survive and transition into a team that can hold their own with greater possession. You can exactly what SC is planning, but it’s a monumental ask really

Luton, Sheffield United, Burnley, Fulham, Wolves, Bournemouth, Everton, Brentford, Crystal Palace...we could finish above them. A lot of caveats of course!11th.

Aston Villa, Brighton and West Ham...deep ECL and EL cup runs gives us a sniff. 10th to 8th.

Chelsea and Man U...we beat one, should have at least drawn the other. A CL (or even better a EL) run gives us hope, as does their managers leaving. 7th to 6.
