Is there anyway of protecting the ground from flooding while irreparably damaging the boat house and making them move out?

It’s a perfect time to do it. In the same way that I’m going to pull down my next my door neighbour’s massive tree during the next storm.

For what it's worth, the flooding at Wilford Lane has subsided and the Tram is now running again.

The road is still closed for the moment, no idea whether it'll reopen in time for travel to the game.

That's useful to know.

Do you know if the park and rides served by that tram are open again?

I am not sure if you have ever been to Nottingham, but it has major river running near it which also has other subsidiary rivers feeding into it. These are not like ponds and don't just gather water and remain static .
Ok, so that's a bit of a silly response considering I've lived in Notts all my life, but still. Yes there is the river and yes there's plenty of stuff feeding into it.

But if you look at the section which is affected, there is no such thing near it, the Trent isn't that far off but there are no connecting watercourses nor even anything at all nearby. If the flooding was coming directly from the river, then this would flood intermediate areas too, as the water doesn't just appear like magic from the river to a bit of land a distance away from it, nor would it be water table related as that bit isn't markedly lower than the surrounding area (which would also flood in that case).

So the answer was (presumably) already given by Rosie who had seen previously where water had been coming out of a manhole cover in the road which means a drain is over capacity and flooding the road. As you see absolutely nothing to do with the river. If you look at the area on something called a map or something called google street view you'll see where it is ;)

I'm not really sure why it would open for the tram but not the road. So I suppose cars going past are a lot more frequent than the tram, and there's more potential for displaced water to flood properties, but trams are a lot lower on the road, and also rely on getting traction through the tracks, which must be less easy when they're under water.

it does still have plenty of time to drain away before tomorrow late morning though

Sounds like it's that there's issues with the actual road surface that needs to be sorted rather than any remaining water. From the recent photos it doesn't look like there's any remaining standing water.

They can't be fixing pot holes, this is Notts, and that stuff isn't allowed!

There was probably a red light

And on a pavement, having changed from the road at said red light.

Just a question for anyone living or visiting flooded areas, did anyone receive the government mobile alert that was set up and tested 23rd March last year to warn of flooding?
