Drove down past Roman Qtr about an hour ago & it's fine, usual massive puddle on Nott'm Road in Bingham but Gunthorpe Bridge is closed so couldn't get my daughter to football training in Lowdham / pint in the Magna while I wait for her
Yes, and it still is I think, as is Kelham Bridge and also the A57 toll bridge on the way to Lincoln. So the only ways across the river between Nottm and Gainsborough at the moment are the A616 and A1. (Aside from the A46 on that silly island thing). Next in is Lady Bay Bridge.

Oh and Wilford Lane is underwater by the tram stop, which I can't think is related to the river, probably a blocked drain or a sink hole going somewhere which is full.

No doubt more pot holes later too

According to NET, they're not expecting the flooding at Wilford Lane to clear up for a while, as they've announced that services won't resume until at least Monday. So I'd suggest anyone travelling to the match plan to allow a lot more time than you normally would as Wilford Lane being closed will f*** things up big time (and not just for people who use that route).

I hadn't thought about this but thanks for the heads up.

I'll have to make my entry and exit plans properly.

Does anyone know where that flooding is actually coming from? It seems to be wet every time it rains a bit, and recently there have been a few occasions where the buses have had to divert etc because of the road being underwater, yet there (as far as I know) aren't any streams or anything around it nor is it near to any obvious water courses, and it doesn't seem to extend past the road/tram line intersection much.

It strikes me it's a drainage issue, and either something isn't working properly, or for some reason it's ended up that the road drainage builds up there and meets that coming off the tram lines in both directions (which is off the bridge and downhill from Wilford) and just can't drain anywhere else quickly enough.

I suppose they could pump it away but that they haven't partially assumes they know where it's coming from and that it will just come back again or that they don't want to.

It’s indeed drains, but it’s water coming up around the manhole cover. I drove along it the last time we had issues some weeks ago, and the level was low enough at that point to see the water bubbling up.

Could well be drainage. It's worth noting that in the last 12 months they built a new Aldi right at that spot, next door to the new Lidl that opened a couple years ago - so that's a large area built over that was largely grassland a few years ago.

Yes, I think I've seen that before, but it would seem odd that would build up through basically a leaky drain to flood a fair amount of road.

I drove through on Weds - it was just about passable with care then, but even bearing that in mind (and huge HGVs were going through it) it was perhaps enough for the splash over to go into gardens etc. Wasn't overly surprising to see they have actually closed it. The detour is quite lengthy though...

Well, yes, there is now two supermarkets there along with the other outlets on that retail park along with the new site for Becket which is also not particularly old, along with the tram line.

Naturally things like that are going to generate some run off where the ground would have soaked it up before it was surfaced but the ground can get saturated too of course and run off into the roads which forces all that down the drains too. It just goes a different way.

People in Burton Joyce have been saying similar things about the new road and the extra run off causing more flooding there. Now I've always thought most of the A612 tends to waterlog, especially the bit between Lowdham and Thurgarton, and the bit between Lowdham and BJ slightly less so, but it does appear to be worse there too. That road's just off the flood plain though, so if the water table is high then that affects run off and surface drainage into the fields, etc, so it's going to flood.

Sorry to be a pain, but with the flooding, I am guessing the Park and Ride at Clifton is not an option. I will be comimg from the M1 Sth direction leaving at J24 (the plan).

Where would anyone advise to park or travel a different way?

Thanks in advance.

Getting the Tram at Clifton P+R certainly won't be much use. You could theoretically get the Skylink Express bus from there (which is being re-routed via Loughborough Road instead of Wilford Lane at the moment), though if many others have the same idea it'll be rammed and is only every half an hour.

Ok cheers for the heads up.

Will look for updates as I drive up Sunday morning. Possibly dump the car 30 to 40 mins walk away somewhere.

park in town and walk from there? the sunday day rates should be ok, the station one is cheap.
there is a little open air one too off canal street (just dont drive past through the traffic lights into the bus lane as you'll get a big fine, near orange knife n fork logo)

I am not sure if you have ever been to Nottingham, but it has major river running near it which also has other subsidiary rivers feeding into it. These are not like ponds and don't just gather water and remain static .

My ex was child minding for my lad yesterday who lives on East Lake. She had to get a lift back home as they'd stopped all the buses.

Hasn't theTrent always risen when they've had a lot of snow Derbyshire way and it thaws quickly? Obviously not saying that's what's causing this mess.

Having spent the Christmas period in Ruddington, where it has pissed it down every day, the amount of flooding around the village is possibly the worst I’ve seen, and the major contributing cause seems to be the lack of run-off with all the new housing estates that have shot up in the last 2-3 years.

The farmlands around Flawforth Lane and Wilford Road were basically a lake.

The drain outside my house is probably 3/4 as bad as the pictures these people have uploaded.

Tory cuts plus councils with misguided priorities leads to a lower standard of living. Blocked drains is just 1 facet of this.

£208 a month I pay to Rushcliffe council for them to empty the bins and cut the grass once a year. I've seen roads in poorest Africa in better repair than the road by Holme house adjacent to the A52. 🤣

The drains were all backed up in stabbo and sandiacre the other month, which led to a lot of flooding local to me. Now it seems they managed to clear a lot of the drains only for the water to then run quicker into the trent, seemingly adding to the problems downstream in the last lot of flooding.

Bessel lane in Stabbo has been underwater 3 or 4 times in the last few months. The council have said they've cleared everything that's to do with them and it's STW and other departments issues that are stopping it draining. If they do get them clear, I expect even more issues downstream.

No ones even mentioned infrastructure works for flood defenses or even drainage improvements. No wonder they cancelled HS2, Toton sidings Station would probably just be constantly underwater without massive infrastructure improvements.

Locally, around the ground, the flooding has subsided and is fine. The issue will be the surrounding areas and access towards TB. Allow plenty of time to get to the ground tomorrow
