AMERICAN IDIOT
I've just seen this, the USL (basically the "other" league of soccer in America) re-branded to have one central brand and three leagues under that one brand, like us.
The USL Championship, USL League One, and USL League Two. I think its interesting, as league one and league two are focusing on cities who don't have a sports team but with a decently large population.
I suppose the thought process behind this rebranding is 1. the world cup and riding the train of the north American world cup in 2026 and 2. Better use of all the soccer talent we have in the large university system we have here all over the nation.
From what I see, most MLS or USL soccer fans have another team they support which is in our leagues or the other major top divisions in Europe. So, rebranding to make it look like all the leagues here makes sense. Makes it less different, less american.
IDK I thought it was interesting, especially as there is a team, USL East Bay, which is going to play in the top division which is the championship, in 2021.
