Sure. There is an unwritten law, called law 18. Smart refs apply it to try and get out of controversial decisions. Refs are part of controversy enough without adding more fuel to the fire. So, Areola fouled, Taylor realizes he has the ball in his hands, applies advantage. This is a common thing to do as the keeper has the option of throwing, punting, or putting it down and playing it.
