Manchester City too. There was a genuine tear in my mate at work's eye when the news broke. He's old enough to remember when they were crap.Mention for the Brum fans. They must be gutted as well
Sad news. Nothing more to add to OMRs post which reflects my sentiments.Gutted.
To those of us who were lucky enough to be there that balmy summer's night Trevor will always hold a special part in our hearts.
His name will always stand proud in our long glorious history.
Go and be United with your beloved Helen now Trev.
Rest in peace.
P s. When you meet Sir Brian. Take your hands out your pockets young man
Far better than a tattooI still have a scar on my left hand from that night in 1979. I was so pissed on cider that I fell over a barbed wire fence on the way home and cut my hand open.
The nearest I will ever get to a tattoo.
I'm pleased to see that the Guardian got its facts right, unlike the Sun which claimed that Trevor scored his European Cup-winning header at the Olympic Stadium "in Rome".The Guardian now reporting the news
Trevor Francis, Britain’s first £1m footballer, dies aged 69
The former England forward Trevor Francis, who was the first player to be transferred in Britain for £1m, has died at the age of 69www.theguardian.com
I was stood on the kop right behind the goal when he scored that, think it was a winner for Wednesday
RIP
He came to us in the twilight years of his playing career but was an important part of the squad that got us promoted back to the First Division and winning the League Cup.
Then of course he took the managers job when Ron Atkinson left. A third place finish followed by two Cup finals in the same season and a crack at Europe. Not to mention the signings of Chris Woods, Des Walker and Chris Waddle, who Trevor all brought in.
A hugely respected figure that will always be fondly remembered by Wednesday fans. We nearly lived the dream in those few years.
TRICKY TREV’S BARMY ARMY!
RIP Trev.
