According to today’s meeting they can’t start anything until they’ve built a new boat club and they haven’t even agreed a new location yet
I'd still be surprised if the football club and Benoy don't have plans in place or at least consulted with Nottingham Rowing Club (which came into being when the Britannia & Boat clubs merged as a result of falling membership and spiralling costs). After all, the two parties came to an agreement regarding the future demolition of the original Britannia boathouse.

The bulk of the objections put forward by the rowing fraternity were on behalf of the rival Union Rowing Club, which demanded similar compensation as offered to the NRC, despite minimal, if any, impact.

Mere guesswork on my part, but it wouldn't surprise me if the '80s-built boathouse which was added by the the Brit isn't replaced by a larger and significantly upgraded building at the same site.

„Nice Boathouse you have there. It would be a shame if something happened to it… like it caught fire… or something?“

I'm not sure of all the ins and out but I think you're right here.

Just speculating, but as the Union leased the Shed from Britannia, is the reason they want compo that they have to give it up so the site can be developed and used as the replacement for the Brit?

Yes.

Edit: That is how it was explained to me, anyway, by an acquaintance from Rudd who is something to do with one of the Boat Clubs (Fucktifino which one, and I‘d had a few in the Frame Breakers when he collared me).

While going through old newspapers I found a piece on plans to add a dogtrack to a proposed sports park at Colwick with a few lines at the end on siting a joint football stadium there for Forest and Notts.

(Nottingham Evening Post, Thursday, November 09, 1972)

Plan for dog track at sports complex
...
The idea of a joint football stadium is not a new one and Ald. Foster said that it had been discussed quite often but he was now pleased to see that the officials of both Forest and Notts County were willing to talk about it.

“I must confess though,” continued Ald. Foster, “that I was amazed to hear that both Mr Jack Dunnett and Mr Jim Willmer of Notts and Forest respectively talked about a stadium for 30000.

“I myself thought of something that would attract internationals and FA Cup semi-finals and I cannot see the Football Association being interested in a stadium restricted to 30000 crowds.”

“Furthermore I envisage full use being made of this stadium in the same way that Wembley is used and so that will pay its way.”

Can you imagine if they had gone ahead with that. Had our future gone as it did we would have been playing the European Cup with a maximum crowd of 30,000. And following the move to all seater stadiums that would have dropped probably to around 25,000, maybe less.

For those that are a bit older and can remember, what existed before the main stand. I know the previous stand burned down in 1968 or so. Was the existing Peter Taylor stand cobbled together in a rush because we had a great team at that time (Storey Moore, Baxter) and it doesn’t seem very ambitious.

Tbh, I wasn't aware that the Union rented it from NRC, but your reasoning, as attested to by Strummer, certainly sounds plausible.

I think people underestimate the current level of interest in football, it’s on the up. Every single premier league team is averaging its capacity (selling out every week). Wolves (no bigger fan base than us) are planning a 50k upgrade. Everyone said Brighton were mad to build a 30k stadium in a town that rarely ever got more than 15k - they’ve filled it every year since.
Totally agree with this.

Very naive to base previous attendances on the accessibilty and impact football has on people today. The game has changed so massively in the last couple of decades. Personally, I dont think 38k will be anywhere near enough should we establish ourselves as a Prem Club, but it will do.....for now.

To be fair, when this article was written, our crowds were averaging around 10,000-it’s a good job Brian
Clough had arrived and Willmer had left within two and a half years.

Hasn't it been reported recently here that Brighton don't actually fill their stadium and that it's just smoke and mirrors?

It tizwas it is
Can't we squeeze another 2k into the Peter Taylor stand make it a 12k capacity. Then when they redo the bridgeford roof do it to the height Brian Clough Stand. Fill in the Trent End corners that should easily get us to 45K.
