The ball is lighter and moves in the air more. This is supposed to help free-kick takers but I wonder if it does, given our free-kick results.
I feel the variety has gone from our free-kicks now though. In the Clough and Pearce days we had the option for a curler or power, left foot or right foot, this carried on with Cooper. Even when we knew that Dutch idiot was taking them all, it would still be the option for him to curl it or belt it. Now it seems every single free-kick is a little dinked curl effort. Even on Saturday against Luton we had a free-kick right on the edge of the box, from that close in it was crying out for a plain old fashioned piledriver, any sort of deflection would likely have taken it in.

Some belting free kicks in those days.

16/1 on Brentford is right punt. I know Evertons point deduction should mean they're safe, but if us Luton and Everton have a strong end to the season I can see them in all sorts of trouble

I have a vague memory of watching a game, no recollection of who it was we were playing, but they conceded a Free-Kick in prime Psycho territory - and John Motson's commentary "They'll be breathing a sigh of relief that Stuart Pearce isn't in the team today...", only for Ian Woan to step up and smash it into the top corner.

Almost no chance. Would require them to cough up 4, 5 and 5 point advantages (assuming Everton get a -4 like us) to finish in bottom three. Possible albeit unlikely in a two-horse race but all three teams won't make up the difference. When you think how quickly the teams at the bottom accumulate points you're talking the need for 14 points in total gain on Brentford in 9 rounds of fixtures. 16/1 should be more like 30/1.

And I say that as someone who stuck a bit of money on Brentford to go down before we lost to them away as I thought their fixtures were tough and they'd get dragged into it.

Aye, Woany had a sweet, sweet left foot.

Sounds like against Newcastle - sure Woan scored 2, one a FK on the right wing.
