Looks that way, although anyone salivating on him coming to the City Ground is equally retarded as he really isn't that good a player, he's completely over rated.

Anyway, the bid hasn't been turned down so something is happening with it, I'd imagine that Whittingham will be requesting a move away soon to whoever as the players have been asked to defer all their bonuses and appearance fees until the end of next season and top of this the players haven't been paid on time for the past four months.

Add to the fact that Cardiff are completely up shit creek financially - they have the tax man taking them to court for the umpteenth time, they still owe money for the three players they signed last season in Chopra, Quinn and Hudson plus they did an early 2010 - 2011 season ticket release half way through last season at a reduced price to 'get new signings in during the january window' but spunked it all keeping the tax-man at bay for a few more days.

Anyway, bollocks to Whittingham, hes fakkin crap, get Chris Burke in. He is class.

He would get a regular start at Forest and will be playing for a side that could be pushing for Promotion. He is a fairly local lad as well, born in Nuneaton so being close to home might swing it.

Burnley will be balancing the books TBH and will be looking at trying to save mney, players get a pay rise for going up but don't usually get a pay cut for getting relegated and Burnley will be looking at their long term future and not a short term risk.

Well they can't afford 300k to pay motherwell and according to that article they have debts of £30m AFTER the malay guy injected £6m. £1.5m could look pretty tempting to them if they weren't so far in the shit that it wouldn't really make a difference.

They've gone on this long without settling up and Ridsdale, a man who is known to keep digging when his grave is already deep enough, is involved.

I would not put a few more signings they won't pay for beyond them.

I've come up with a plan, how about we pay Cardiffs transfer of 300k for them to Motherwell, and they give us Whittingham on a free? Then they are a bit closer to getting out of debt, we get the player we want, and they also have another player off the books so they no longer have to pay his salary everyones a winner. lol

you can be sarcastic all you like but the fact remains he had an extremely fortunate season in terms of 'stats' last season. Compare last seasons stats to those of the 2008-2009 season as I would hazzard a guess they would be more reflective of his footballing prowess.

If Billy, or the 'aquisitions panel' is looking to cherry pick from a club in deep financial crisis then they would be better off turning their attention towards Jay Bothroyd or Chris Burke.

I actually totally agree with him, if my wages were late for the last four months and then after working my bollocks off to earn bonuses, which Cardiff city have benefited from financially, being asked to defer them for a season and still a transfer embargo over there heads meaning no chance of the playing squad improving, i think i would be pretty hacked off too.
Thats not to mention the continuing saga with HMRC and owing other clubs money, Chopra probably realises the chance of getting paid his wages/bonuses are getting slimmer.

It was either Tevez, or Man City in general, who had their relegation clauses leaked. Their contracts cover players right the way down to non-league performances.

It was Man City Rich - my Citeh-loving colleague confirms.

Most clubs have a "relegation" clause in contracts just in case; especially when going from the Premier League, Burnley would have been mad not to (as of course many others have) put something regarding wage reduction in to their contracts.

Newcastle didn't though, which is why they apparently lost over £30m for the season they were in the Championship.

Perhaps it's a reflection of the fact he is getting better? I think you're dead wrong. I remember seeing him play for villa as a kid and standing out as very obviously talented. I've obviously not followed him closely but I see people on welsh forums saying he is inconsistent, which would be why villa let him go. Perhaps last year he learnt how to be consistent? Whatever the truth you don't get to be league top scorer by accident.

I know it's not fashionable to say it, but when he wanted to be he was a damn good player. He seemed to struggle with attitude and consistency, though. He was vastly improved when Calderwood dropped him and brought him on for sub appearances. I wonder if he needed a strong manager who wouldn't stand for lack of effort.

I guess it's one of those things we'll never find out, but interesting to think about.

That treatment worked wonders on the likes of John Robertson when Cloughie did it. Even Andy Reid responded to Paul Hart's "shape up or ship out" ultimatum.

I think it goes deeper than 'shape up or ship out', though. Calderwood could have told him that, but I don't think it would ahve done any good. Indeed, he seemed to pick the ship out option.

The real skill of a manager is getting the best out of players through whichever means gets the best out of the individual.

Clough was genius in this regard, famously telling Stuart Pearce he wasn't good enough to play for England, for example.

He knew that Pearce would react to that. How many interviews with the players who played under Clough said they yearned for a 'well done' from him?

I think it was Kenny Burns who talked about Clough knowing about players beyond the football. Knowing what their vices were, and how to handle them.

In all honesty, I think he started to take involvement with the players further post Leeds, as Revie had talked about fathering them. He learned what motivated a player.

If two players had both had half decent games, he may have told one that they were brilliant as he knew confidence was what the player needed, whilst telling the other he had played terribly as he knew the guy had a desire to impress.

I think Billy works in this way. He finds out how to get the best out of a player.
