I doubt this will be enough to get Cardiff to sell even with their financial worries. We will need to bid in excess of 2m I would have thought to force their hand.

I'd be fairly confident it's true - he's normally pretty reliable. What comes of it is anyone's guess, though...

We could be saving ourselves 500k > 1m if they accept a smaller bid though. It's not worth rushing in with wallets blazing.

its a step in the right direction, hopefully we will go in with a higher offer as theres no way cardiff will accept it.

he's in a similar position to pratley with 12 months left on his contract, cardiff should accept this

this could be enough to get him there is not loads of money being splashed about and Cardiff need the money so it might be enough

Re: £1.5m bid tabled in writing today for Whittingham

oh ok i didn't know Burnley had made a bid
i suppose alot depends on the player himself, and who he wants to play for
i think Cardiff will definitely sell him but who to is anyones guess

Re: £1.5m bid tabled in writing today for Whittingham

Burnley have their "parachute" money, so I suppose a £1.75m bid isn't out of bounds for them; I suppose we would have to match whatever Burnley bid, and then - if the bid is accepted - it's up to the player.

The other issue then is money, and I would worry that Burnley might offer him more cash (they'd have to offer some incentive for someone to go and live in a dump like Burnley!)

It's a decent bid as he on;y has 12 months left on his contract. If Cardiff accept that bid then I think he will be coming our way.

I know, lets offer £250,000 less than the one bid that's already been rejected.

OK as a toe in the water exercise but unlikely to succeed, having said that the TAP did well in this kind of thing last year.

BBC = Press.
Daniel Taylor = Press.

There's no way of knowing how much either club has offered, or whether either have tabled a bid at all? Or if Peter Whittingham even exists?

Someone on another site is speculating that the the Burnley bid was actually about 750k with add ons and clauses making a total of 1.75m. apparently this is the first cash up front bid that is close to there valuation.

Also when it comes to the choice between Forest or Burnley, Whittingham was on loan at Burnley when he played for Villa. So there may be some degree of loyalty there.

are you doubting my faith?? i'll have you know that there are plenty of peter whittingham references on the bbc sport website. for example: "Peter Whittingham got the first in an early sign that Derby's offside trap would be exposed, then he set up Chopra for his first strike since August."
