The Official F.A. Cup Thread, 2023 -24 Season: Bristol City v Nottingham Forest, K.O. Friday 26th January 2024 at 19:45

Will Forest's marksmen kill Cock Robin with our bow and arrow?

  • Yes: 'twas I said the sparrow...

  • No: The robin dodges the feathered missile.

  • Oh bugger... back to the City Ground and VAR!

Phillips was on one of those podcasts a while back. His recollection of his time at Forest was decidedly sketchy and not at all accurate. He thought we went down as soon as we sold Stan!
I watch a fair bit of stuff like that, or the under the cosh stuff and a lot of the ex players aren’t very accurate with their dates etc… Not like us fans who tend to have encyclopaedic knowledge of certain seasons.

I find my knowledge has dwindled, but having a lot of nondescript seasons over the last quarter of a century hasn’t helped. Not exactly been loads of good stuff to remember for 20 years.

Yes, it was on the Matt Davies era Garibaldi Red pod about 2 months ago, iirc.

I've not read all of the thread so this may have been covered already (and could be a stupid question anyway)..

But with players hopefully starting to come back from AFCON after today - will they be eligible for the replay, or are they ruled out due to being not having been with the club at the time of the original game?

Fair play Trees, we had a right go.
I can't see us winning at your place but we will come and give it a go.
I hope you liked the 'Ashton gate' experience, it's certainly different from football back in the day.
Hopefully your journey was trouble free and the fella that called cider 'shit' managed to sample some and had a headache of all headaches!
See you in a couple of weeks.

+ 100 for the orchard and I take back my daft comment about twenty ciders.
Lovely pub , well worth the walk

First away game since promotion

Match was crap, lot of meaningless sideways passing and not much action either end. Not sure either side deserved to score let alone win. Danilo’s free kick at the end - less said the better.
Positives - Andrew played well at CB and good to see MGW back. Turner kept a clean sheet with no mistakes.
Fans quieter than I remember but there was not a lot to shout about, chicken and egg with the team performance.

Got to the ground about 2 hours before ko and went in the home independance bar. Wow, like a proper pub who know how to treat customers. Massive tv across the back of the bar with SSN on, great selection of beer and cider for the wrong uns , upstairs they have separate areas for supporters club and a vip section. Tables, chairs setees, hot water in the bogs - like a really nice pub. Outside massive selection of food and yet more bars. The place was busy 2 hours before ko and packed after, everyone doesnt just bugger off. Again it really highlighted how far we are away from the facilities of a mid championship club. Somebody I was with said Forest treat home fans like away fans and sadly that’s how the facilities are.

Spoke to a few Bristol fans and they were all spot on
I thought exactly the same. They have got a proper 'fan park' going on down there outside and then when the weathers shite, they've that amazing indoor area. Compare that to the dross we have to put up with. Why the f*** don't the Supporters Trust ever do anything ever to challenge the club about what the Commercial Dept are actually doing. It makes no sense to continue to be so backward financially.

I think they can play as they were eligible for the first game (just busy elsewhere ).Whoever it was got done earlier in the season for playing someone who was away on loan for the first game.

Yeah they weren’t suspended, or get to be signed. If the six didn’t get picked they would have been available. So they can play.

Personally enjoyed it mate well everything apart from the actual match hadn't been to Ashton Gate for years it's improved but still a traditional football ground sorry about our atmosphere mate just was nothing really to get us going

Because if they did start rocking the boat, they’d no doubt lose the privileged access they currently enjoy, I guess?

Lets face it, under various owners Forest have been run like Arkwright‘s corner shop for decades. We all know the commercial side of the club, and the thought given to the matchday supporter, is way down the list of the clubs‘ priorities it seems, given the appalling food and beverage offerings and the woeful facilities on offer.

I went to watch my local side yesterday and even though the stadium is still a bit of a building site with the refurbishment of the Haupttribune for Euro 2024, there was still plenty of things going on, and decent food and drink offerings available. It can be done, Bristol City on Friday it seems was a fine example, but Forest just seem - as with many things - to just want to do the absolute minimum and leave it at that.

It may have done us a favour this replay which is scheduled for next weekend. Knocking Bournemouth back to when more AFCON players plus Taiwo return is a good thing providing we don't pick up any injuries from the extra fixture.

Hi all, I'm back for the replay!
First game was OK but never really got going, just a few half chance both ways.
I don't rate our chances at the City Ground but you never know, fingers crossed 🤞
We play dirty Leeds on Friday night, Forest play on Sunday, so we've got two extra days recovery time.
Will it be a sell out in the home stands?

After hoping for a decent cup run I'm now at the point where I don't care - who plays up front? Who knows.

Bristol city will come with their chief clogger Williams back too I think... Perhaps I'll see that Williams c Yates battle after all.

How we select a side to limit damage I've no idea - Osong maybe, Kouyate in, risk Niakhate? I'd have played Aguilera but he's gone. It has the feel of an accident waiting to happen, though an accident hopefully we win I suppose...

I'm concerned we are going to be forced to overuse Awoniyi and he will break again.

I don't see we have much choice than to give some of the kids a go. I would start Osong and leave Awoniyi on the bench to bring on if we need him.
