The Official F.A. Cup Thread, 2023 -24 Season: Bristol City v Nottingham Forest, K.O. Friday 26th January 2024 at 19:45

Will Forest's marksmen kill Cock Robin with our bow and arrow?

  • Yes: 'twas I said the sparrow...

  • No: The robin dodges the feathered missile.

  • Oh bugger... back to the City Ground and VAR!

Add me to the list of oddballs who enjoyed it - bit of a chess match with few things to shout about, but enjoyed the way both sides moved the ball about and enjoyed our qualiteh in possession. We didn't do much but though we looked very tidy at times. Clean sheet and nice to see Morgan back too. I'm easily pleased it seems.

Any idea on replay date?
Oddballs are we?
To me, the oddballs are those who can’t enjoy a game unless Forest play like world champions and score a net full of goals.
We are not oddballs: we are the ones with our heads in the right place.
The rest probably require a daily dose of quinoa and a prawn sandwich.
I bet they even expect water and paper towels in the Upper Trent End bogs.

Can't be Monday 5th as we play Bournemouth the day before. I think it's on the website as a placeholder. Probably be Wednesday or Thursday that week.

Ah yes, I didn't see Bournemouth is on the 4th. One of them will move then, presumably Brizzle as tickets will have been sold for 'Muff.

Rousing speech captain, enjoyed!

You spent the entire morning advising the king that we'd never beat those heavily armoured French Knights with a bunch of archers and that we'd be massacred when they rode us down?
Archers? Are we back onto cider again?

First away game since promotion

Match was crap, lot of meaningless sideways passing and not much action either end. Not sure either side deserved to score let alone win. Danilo’s free kick at the end - less said the better.
Positives - Andrew played well at CB and good to see MGW back. Turner kept a clean sheet with no mistakes.
Fans quieter than I remember but there was not a lot to shout about, chicken and egg with the team performance.

Got to the ground about 2 hours before ko and went in the home independance bar. Wow, like a proper pub who know how to treat customers. Massive tv across the back of the bar with SSN on, great selection of beer and cider for the wrong uns , upstairs they have separate areas for supporters club and a vip section. Tables, chairs setees, hot water in the bogs - like a really nice pub. Outside massive selection of food and yet more bars. The place was busy 2 hours before ko and packed after, everyone doesnt just bugger off. Again it really highlighted how far we are away from the facilities of a mid championship club. Somebody I was with said Forest treat home fans like away fans and sadly that’s how the facilities are.

Spoke to a few Bristol fans and they were all spot on

Quite enjoyed that; a proper cup tie. As 0-0s go I’ve been to a lot worse. Both sides hit the side netting multiple times which shows they were both going for it, and I thought we had the better “must score” chances for Danilo, Wood and CHO in particular.

Turner did well, MGW was different class, and it we kept the ball pretty well, but we can be too slow in our movement and runs, and / or our passing when someone does make a run. MGW really makes a difference in that respect and we need to get the ball to him more often. CHO looks lively with his dribbles until he gets 1 yard inside the box at which point he seems to always stop.

Wasn’t too late getting back and I now embark on a Saturday without the usual raging hangover so maybe that’s the big benefit of Friday night football for me.

Fingers crossed for a decent draw in the next round, and wouldn’t it be nice to start singing about going to Wembley, being on the march, and wearing scarlet ribbons, instead of moaning about everything that moves?
Good summary.
Too many people moaning about our performance for me.
Really strong professional away performance against a dangerous team that put WHU out in the last round.
Nothing flashy - kept them at arms length and restricted them to a couple of half chances - now to finish the tie at home and look forward.
What’s not to like?
