The Great Nottingham Forest Injury Crisis

incident

What's the downside of not having a Head of Physiotherapy?
I would say truth is, from the outside we don't know.

Can come up with scenarios under which it doesn't matter a jot (if everything is being dealt with to a high standard by other roles), or where it's a hammer blow (if the only person who knows what they're doing has left and not being replaced).

Basically it's about the people not the job titles.

What's the down side of not having a consultant at a hospital?

The main role is to oversee and make sure all the work is being done correctly and appropriately, they will have more knowledge than the other physios, so should in theory at least be able to spot issues and advise the best course of action. Maybe a head Physio would have been able to spot issues with Moussa sooner so his lay off wouldn't get extended

They did sort a replacement from Arsenal, but he changed his mind and stayed there.

So they had been looking, but then just didn’t bother.

Is it time to dust this one off again?
Currently unavailable due to injury (I think):
Awoniyi CF
Felipe CD
Danilo CM
CHO LF
Montiel RB
Origi CF
Nuno Tavares LWB
(5 first teamers)
With Aina & Niakhate potentially not yet back to 90 minutes match fit yet.

I don't recall us having these amounts of first-teamers out when we were in the Championship, and so it must be something to do with the sheer intensity of PL games and the training required to compete. That said, Montiel was injured whilst turning out for Argentina.

Off the top of my head blades, Brentford,Chelsea,Palace also seem to have a big injury list. High intensity teams like City and Liverpool never seem to suffer to the same extent.

I know Chelsea will be seen as spoiling my theory, but it appears that injuries seem more apparent in the teams lower down the social pyramid in the Prem. In other words, the top teams have larger and stronger reserves so their injury lists don't appear so serious because they have strong players to step in and cover.

I know people scoff when Klopp and Guardiola moan about fixture congestion, and rightly so, but they have a valid point when it comes to the added risk of injuries brought on from the increased intensity of games.

The last few couple of years have seen a huge increase in injuries, not just at Forest, which I think is parallel with the shift from more technical players to more physical ones.

Clearly this new Head Physio we've brought in is shit. We're down to the bare bones again and will have to field a bunch of Under 21s against Liverpool.

its prob more down to the players we are signing. They've either not been playing regularly before joining, or come from a lower intensity league - plus we've signed a relatively large number at once. So any lack of fitness or physical weakness gets found out early in the season, and we end up with a long injury list. Same for blades, chelsea

Liverpool etc have a different profile of signings - most have PL experience (MacAllister) already

I think generally the teams towards the bottom have less of the ball and do a lot more chasing. City have one or two out but they normally have a pretty small core of senior players that they play every game but football is a lot kinder on the body when you have the ball.

Plus the majority of the players we have out on loan, or at least that was the case recently.

When Klopp and especially Guardiola moan about fixture congestion it's a joke if you look at the quality they always have on the bench.

In the latest training video Felipe and Tavares are playing what looks like a full contact game, Danilo appears in the video but doesn't seem to be playing, and no sign of Taiwo. (That could be Cooper's smokes and mirrors though, says the optimist in me!)

Don't think I saw Montiel either.

I saw some familiar faces today, but can someone provide a brief injury update?
