Can someone name me a men's European football tournament with trophy that is lower in the hierarchy than this one?

The Albufeira Tourist Trophy has got to be right down there.

The sight of Luke Chambers parading that particular Cup around will live long in the memory.

I thought moyes could’ve taken the game to Fiorentina. He has by far the better squad and if anything, won it by default.
There's no comparison, is there? Fiorentina's squad would have cost half of what West Ham spent last summer alone. English clubs should win the Europa League and the Conference League each and every season. That they don't is down to poor management.

To paraphrase Gertrud Stein, a title is a title is a title. Given that, in the foreseeable future, your realistic chance for a European title is precisely the Conference League, I would not be so sarcastic about West Ham.
This. The sneering at this trophy is ridiculous, they’ve had to beat decent teams to win this, they’ve not won anything for forty years. It‘s far better to actually win something than celebrate finishing 10th in the premier league. Plus the trophy looks cool. We won the ZDS Trophy and loved it.

I disagree.

If Forest were in it, would I like to win?… Yes.

Do I give a shit about it?… No.

It’s a pointless cup competition that doesn’t really mean anything to anyone other than to make a relatively small or large amount of cash (depending which country the club is from). It’s an even wankier version of the Europa League that also doesn’t mean anything either - although admittedly I’d like to be in that. At least the CWC was logical but that’s really the only reason why the UEFA/Europa holds any weight at all.

The best clubs aren’t in the Conference League so it really is the Johnston’s Paint equivalent.

People will only change their tune when they qualify, and as I said up front, if we were in it I’d like to win it but I very much wouldn’t give a shit if we missed out on qualifying. Obviously it would have nice away trips which is a positive I suppose - just watch out for the flying chairs and plastic glasses.

I, for one, would like to congratulate West Ham on winning what is, I assume given the wall to wall coverage on BBC breakfast, the World Cup.

Well done.

Don't get me wrong I'd be over the moon if Forest won it but I think Mike Bushell was contractually obliged to squeeze the words "major European trophy" into every sentence to the point it was intensely annoying plus there were no wet sham fans still out celebrating at 6am. Lightweights.

Just reading everyone's opinions which are very interesting I just want to put my 2 pennth. I want to put my 2 penneth in actually to say what changes I have loved about European Football/Football we have had in the past 5 years. Don't get me wrong I am not massive on change but some things need to sometimes.

1. VAR and technology with reffing. This is gonna rile a few and fair enough I do respect your views however I have found the quality of football I am watching now becuase Refs are less scared of making mistakes. I am now seeing much less diving and games are running so much smoother. Just anecdotaly I felt a lot more injustice in the champ with reffing than the Prem.

2. Which leads to point 2 with refs being much more lenient. I used to watch games 5 years ago where slight touches were given as fouls and that really killed the to and fro of football. Reffing has actually been so much better for me than what it used to be.

3. Expaniding the Euros to 24 teams meaning more teams and more teams from the UK can qualify and its a great laugh. Most of my mates are Welsh so actually we have great fun.

4. The Europa Conference League - Yes yes yes I agree with Morpeth that it is a mickey mouse cup but surely this is what footy is about? The only reason you play football is to win honours. It is giving chances to teams for smaller countries with strong footy culture to get european footy. Than look at West Ham this season. Thats exactly what its for, to gives teams european travels, Brussels, Bucharest, Cyprus, Gent etc... Than a trophy at the end. Take a look at Palace, what a boring life of a fan. Just finish 12th every year, I would rather be in the conference league and finsig 15th.

If Forest make it into the Conference League and win it I think we all agree we would all celebrate like West Ham fans are doing right now.

However - it’s not a major trophy that is very clear in my mind it’s a minor trophy but a trophy.

It’s like winning a gold medal in the Olympics in the 100m relay but you did not even qualify for the 100m individual. So while you should be applauded for winning Gold in the relay the person that wins the 100m individual medal rightly gets a lot more credit and plaudits.

However the worry about even being in this competition is West Ham nearly flirted with relegation this year. Now all is well that’s ends well for them as they have a trophy and stayed up. But aside from the big 6 clubs not many teams have the depth of squad to compete in Europe and the League and the 2 cup competitions.

Well, to paraphrase Ian Holloway; she might not be the best looking girl, but you got her in the taxi and it was all very nice, so thank you very much!

To be fair, if these competitions had 'the top sides' in it then clubs like us and West Ham wouldn't have a cat in hell's chance of winning them.

For clubs like us, opportunities for success are incredibly rare. I'd treasure any opportunity to win a trophy, be that the Champions League or Premier League, or the League Cup or Europa Conference League.

Hope Man City win the proper one on Saturday just to shut these clowns down.

I think the point is made, if we were in this Conference thing, we'd like to win it and we'd travel to see the team.

But as we're not in it, I couldn't tell you who Wets Ham have played, how many games they had to play and I didn't bother to watch the final.

But as my son in law is a West Ham season card holder, I had to pretend it was all fantastically interesting.

I don't think anyone is suggesting we would snarl at it if we were in it. I would love it personally.

But it's not a "major European trophy" and not sure it's worthy of being called Champions of Europe.

It's a pile of shite

Suddenly it's become a major trophy because the cockney biased media is full of West Ham fans & they want to nosh them off for something other than winning the world cup

I must admit to wanting West Ham to win last night, right up until their fans started chucking stuff on the pitch at the opposition players.

Let’s face it, if we were to qualify next season we’d be over the moon. To win it would be epic because of expectations etc. I’d hope (and expect) that our fans would be classier about it though.

By 10am I was sick of hearing about it, tbh.

At 4pm I heard a segment on the radio with Iron's fans waiting for the open top tour around Straford.

I was about to turn it off when a talking head with a fan came on talking about Trophies and Declan Rice. His hope was that Rice would sign a new contract as that was the first trophy of many.

I kept listening because the scale and quality of the delusion was a right laugh.

That's football, folks. Delusion or mockery.

Forest didn't even come 3rd last season. We came up through the play-offs. It's the most tinpot method of promotion, objectively. Yet I don't know too many who would have given up Wembley to come 2nd or 1st.

Saw earlier that they won 12 games in winning the trophy yet only won 11 in the league.

That's still some effort to win a tournament. The way we celebrated promotion and staying up, I think we'd be lying if we say we wouldn't go absolutely mental for a European adventure no matter how 'tinpot'.
