I’m unsure what the German word for curtains is, I’d imagine it’s ein curtainen but if Bayern don’t get their fingers out then the title is gone.

With Leverkusen defeating Hoffenheim 2-1 and Bayern collapsing like Lawrence Welk‘s accordion 0-2 against Dortmund, the gap at the top is now 13 points, with just seven rounds of matches to play in the Bundesliga.

For Bayern, they’ll be looking over their shoulder, because if VfB Stuttgart get a result against Heidenheim tomorrow, the gap between them and Die Schwaben will be just a point, and Bayern still have to come to Stuttgart in early May.

Patrick Schick, the man of miracles strikes again!
Leverkusen are simply refusing to lose this season, all the while we're lying here with no energy just asking to get trampled! ARGH!!

90+1 minutes.

Who doesn’t love a potential injury time winner!

13 point lead on Bayern with 7 games left, surely even Neverkusen can't screw this up now?...

You would think not, given Bayern are parting company with Thomas Tuchel in the summer.

Bayern also have still to travel to Stuttgart at the start of May, and that will not be an easy game, and if the gap is a point or two, VfB might well fancy their chances to leapfrog the Bavarians …

So Harry Kane left Spurs to win something and joined a league where it's often 1 team who wins it (Bayern having won it 11 seasons in a row).

Unfortunately for him it looks like it's all gone tits up and for Bayern this season. Not even a chance in the German cup, and Leverkusen are on course (barring a catastrophic collapse) to do the double or treble and finish the season as the invincibles. Bayern only have the Champions League to play for and it would be difficult to see them winning that with Arsenal up next.

Shows you how important a good manager with decent players mentally invested is. Find that connection and it's a different feeling.

Love the underdog stories and always will. For reasons most Forest fans do. Hope Leverkusen see it out.

The famous Athletic Club of Bilbao were mentioned yesterday in the „One of our own…“ thread, as to their inclusion in the list of Clubs who’ve fielded at least one home-grown player in every match for aeons: Athletic have only sent out Basque players since 1911, which when you consider is a pool of only around 3m people, is some feat.

The BBC have a fantastic piece here in advance of this weekend’s Copa del Rey Final, which sees Athletic take on Mallorca, about their two star attackers, the Williams brothers Inaki and Nico, and their journey to Bilbao, and how Athletic club is almost a religion:

Well worth a read.

Go and have a read about Fred Pentland and his connection to Athletic Club (although as a player, he played for Boro not Sunderland).

Thought it had something to do with dock workers from Sunderland and Southampton ?

All these years I’ve been wrong 😕, just like when I was married 😉

Came here to post that Bilbao article. Fantastic stuff. Love that part about giving newborns bibs and shirts etc. Must create a great sense of community and local pride.

It does. People from Bilbao really do live and breathe Athletic Club.

Brilliant place Bilbao, if you get the chance to visit you should do. The Basques are a fantastically proud and friendly bunch.

And they love their footy, and their Cathedral, San Mames. I’ve seen games in a few European cities, but San Mames is one ground that is on my footballing bucket list.

45 minute mark:

1. FC Heidenheim 0, FC Bayern 2

Full time:

1. FC Heidenheim 3, FC Bayern 2

For the second week in a row, Heidenheim come from two-nil down and score three times.

That result means, if Bayer Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen next weekend, they will be Deutsche Meister, as neither Bayern or Stuttgart can catch them.

And now a massive incentive for VfB Stuttgart, because if they can get a result against Dortmund in this evenings‘ late kick-off, they will be level on points with Bayern, and that mob still have to come to Stuttgart.

God I love the Bundesliga.

I’m giving this game a watch later, I‘m thinking it will be better than listening to commentators banging on about Arsenal.

Stuttgart have a big player missing in central defender and club captain Waldemar Anton, so might well go full-on 3-4-3.

There will be goals, I think I am safe to predict that.

What a match though, what a match.

How on earth did Nico Schlotterbeck miss that sitter? But I am glad he did.

Barring a monumental collapse and a +23 goal swing in the remaining six matches, the VfB will be playing European football next season. Level on points with Bayern, and they still have to come to the Neckarstadion.

Top of the Bundelsiga now looks like this:

IMG_0657.jpeg

With six rounds of matches to play, even if Eintracht win all of them, and Stuttgart don‘t gain a further single point, there would have to be a +23 swing in goals to prevent the VfB playing in Europe at all, next season.

And with Bayern to come to the Neckarstadion, and a couple of straight-forward fixtures still to come, today‘s victory over Dortmund, (who are now seven points behind, and with an inferior goal difference, and having been defeated twice this season on the head-to-head by the VfB) looks absolutely massive, and could well have proved pivotal in gaining a Champions‘ League place for Stuttgart.
