We can safely assume the 5 in bold will (probably) be moved on. The italics probably come under 'youth players' for now, even though they have pro deals.

That leaves us with 18 'senior' pros.

Sorry that leaves us with 23 senior pros. It won't let me edit again.

Of those 23, who goes?

one of Fox or Hobbs, Walker MIGHT go out on loan, Ariybi hasnt featured at all under any manager, so might go out on loan too, one of Henderson or Evtimov could be moved on, if Warburton wants a squad of 22, he'll want 2 players for every position so that would be:

GK: Smith, Henderson OR Evtimov

DR: Lichaj, NEW SIGNING
DC: Mancienne, Worrall, Mills, Fox OR Hobbs
DL: Traore, NEW SIGNING

MC: Vaughan, Cohen, Lam, NEW SIGNING
MR: Ward, Carayol
ML: Osborn, NEW SIGNING

AMC: Clough, Cash

ST: Assombalonga, Brereton, Vellios

with an extra striker in case we want to go 4-4-2, thats a fairly versatile squad with the likes of Lam, Osborn and Ward able to play multiple positions

I'd like to see a few more new faces than that, that's 90% of a squad that has seen us sink the last few seasons. I'd overhaul the whole Midfield first......

well thats not true, of the 23 players in that squad, 4 would be as yet un-named new signings and 9 are either recently emerged youth players or new signings from last summer, so thats 13 out of 23 (or 57%) would either be new or only a year of playing with the club and the rest are the best players from the previous squads, Warburton has said he only wants 4-5 new players, we arent going to see a massive overhaul

Like the player alot. Looks like theres plenty to work with there, particularly like the fact he doesnt look to have a backwards movement in him. Everything focussed on going forwards with intent.

Granted he won't get to carry the ball out with such freedom in the Championship, but he looks like a very decent prospect. Hope he gets a go.

We need 5 as a minimum to at least tackle the issues from last season. Warburtons a top manager, but you can't make a silk purse & all that.

Plus players like carayol havent shown their true potential. So that could be like a new singing. Competition within the front 3 or 4 will also be positive.
I love the guy, but after his injury...any decent offer (8-12m£), and i'd sell Brit. Sorry... hurts me to write it than it does you to read... but its a bomb waiting to explode. IMO.

We just gave a contract to Grant, so effectively the midfield is the same as before... and overall this squad and first eleven, would be the one that just escaped relegation on goal difference.....

Its OK re-signing everyone, but we now run a high risk now that we are stuck with the same-old, as who is going to want our cast-offs

With a different manager and 4 young players who broke through last season who should now improve the sqaud considerably.. We are in a much better position..

Re: The Contract Thread

If you said a better position because of MW I would agree, but disagree we are in a MUCH better position

Yeah. At left back in particular we are far worse off due to Pinnilos leaving meaning we no longer have a competent left back. The midfield has largely been awful, and broken, for 3 years and so relying on those same players is asking for the same problems.

I've got a lot of faith in Warburton to recognise all of this and make some quality additions.

Traore? His injury record is now no worse than Pinillos!

Agree on the MF tho.

Hope you're right and he does make quality additions. Our current midfield is nowhere near good enough. They've proven that time and again. I can't believe there are fans who think we are going to be alright going into the season with these guys. I really hope Ahmedhodzic can make the DM role his, but we need major upgrades along with him in central midfield, both attacking and defending.

Yes and get rid of the overpaid hangers on. There's a dozen at least. Send them to Coventry (they'll pay them well).

I suspect Grant might just take Cashs place in the squad and Cash will go out on loan to get some regular football tbh

Re: The Contract Thread

that is highly depedent on grant impressing during pre-season. It's a higher league between where notts is and forest. Warburton hasn't really seen grant in action yet.

I imagine montanier legionnaires of foreigners will be going - lica , perquis . lam , stojkovic and velios. I don't imagine there's space for hobbs either if and when he's off the treatment table.

Re: The Contract Thread

I'm sure I read that the new lad Cummings likes to play off another striker, someone who can hold the ball up and bring him into play.

Surely that will be Velios' role during the forthcoming season.

Or am I missing something?

Re: The Contract Thread

I think we'll see a front three of strikers rotating. Probably start
Brereton RW
Britt ST
Cummings LW

And swap around.
