I just think when we get in the final 3rd him being right footed really restricts us, his natural instinct is to cut inside onto his favoured foot, which isn't helped by the fact the CHO wants to do the same thing, so countless times we get into a good position and have to play ourselves into a worse position simply because neither wants to cross with their left foot.
That's a very good point in fairness, especially when CHO is playing.

I think he's more inclined to use his left than CHO though, the way he mugged Walker off was hilarious :ROFLMAO:

I think when he signed we all were a bit meh about him being able to operate on both sides but I'd be inclined to keep him there.

It's why I think CHO looked more dangerous with Tavares behind him. When CHO goes to cut inside, if the left-back is marauding down the outside the defender has a decision to make. If he over commits to CHO coming inside then he can play the ball back outside and the left back whips the ball over, if the defender doesn't over commit then CHO can use the left back as a dummy runner, giving him more space to cut inside.

100% agree.

A new LB a small priority for us next year.

Aina and Williams challenging for RB slot, new guy and Toffolo for left back slot.
Agreed, Aina is clearly very capable of playing LB but for me is there out of necessity. I'd like to see him on a consistent basis on his natural side and if we could somehow get a similarly good player for the left (please not Tavares) then we'd really be cooking with gas.

Fair point. Often enough then?
5 times it seems.

Once in September - Man City
Thrice in November - Villa, West Ham, Brighton
Once in December - Fulham

Much as I love toffolo - he seems a model professional and youngsters should use him as a role model - I don't think he will be first choice at this level.
If we do get relegated he will be a real asset.
I probably see Aina leaving if we get relegated, and Toffolo would become 1st choice.

I’m going to bump this thread because I feel that Aina rarely receives recognition for his positive contribution.

He’s been one of our most dependable and consistent wingers and I very much hope he’s here next season.

I agree with this. He had a terrible blip back end of last year, then vanished for what seemed forever, but since he came back he's been such an asset again. One thing I want to highlight is that there's rarely a game where he hasn't astounded me with a turn or move that I just wouldn't have thought of as a player where he extricates himself from being boxed in or intercepted. I really like Toffs, and I hope he remains with us, but Aina on song has become a vital player for us. Long may that continue.

He's an accomplished player, of course.

But all that graphic shows is that he's barely made a contribution in the final third against the worst team in the league. That could be a result of instructions from the manager though.

I think he'd be more comfortable and effective over on the right. New left-back needed.

Also think decisions need to be made whether we continue with back 4 or play wing backs. Aina and Williams wud potentially excel as wing backs but possibly leaves us lighter elsewhere. Mit be horse for courses though.

I say the 3 centre backs, with us loaning out worral and mckenna it left us short to attempt it earlier on. It's no coincidence that CHO has come into his own since Aina has got back into the squad, the same way elanga form dropped off without awoniyi.

I've said it before but he's the best right and left back at the club.

He's a brilliant one on one defender, he doesn't get beaten for pace, he's got decent skills, rarely gives the ball away, and is better going forward than he gets credit for. He could improve his final ball, but I don't think there's a player in the squad you can't throw that accusation at. Considering CHO was £3m plus add ons, and Murillo looks a great investment, the fact Aina is arguably our signing of the season says it all.

Worryingly says he's not extended his contract yet. Sounds like the club are in the process of dropping the ball yet again this season.
Probably as simple as can't afford him if relegated.

Just heard his interview on RN. He comes across as chilled on radio as his playing style.
Says he’s happy and at home here, loves the city.
Didn’t give an answer about a contract extension but hopefully it’s a formality if we stay up.

He's so laid back he could fall to sleep on a galloping hedgehog. He says quite casually that he's sure things will sort themselves out and that he loves it here. I'm pretty sure he's just waiting to ensure that we're a premier league club before he commits.

I was under the impression that we'd triggered another year, but nevertheless, it's just as likely that he wants to see which division we're in next season before committing.

Edit: I just saw Notcher's earlier comment making the same point.

He caught the eye in the preseason friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt and is a player I would really like Forest to commit to, long term.

I like a defender, me.

I think of all the full backs we’ve had since promotion he’s been the most impressive at dealing with some of the top class wingers we’ve been faced with. I include Lodi, Aurier in that.

Definitely, I posted some time back about Aina and CHO they were certainly bargains of the season, yes stating the bloody obvious.

Why so many odd random purchases? Curiosity killed the cat.

Some might say Aina and CHO were random purchases, though low risk because of the low/no fee.

Aina was a Chelsea reject who did have some tiem on loan at Fulham and was on the books of a Serie A team but didn't seem to be a standout player in that league.

CHO was a promising kid who had lost his way and form due to injuries and not even loaning him to other teams seemed to do anything.

Montiel had won the world cup and Sangare was a top player for a good African side standing out as a star player in the Dutch league.

Vlachodimos and Turner were national team keepers.

Hindsight is wonderful really, but I think more on here were expecting bigger things from the big name signings who haven't worked out than the free and the 2.5m misfit.

Percy said in April that we were set to trigger the one year extension (seen as a formality). Maybe this is referring to that not going through, or that we're trying to go beyond that year
