It probably was that, but somone announced they had solve the problem. I can't remember where I saw it or who solved it 😂😂
It did take a step forward last year with (simplifying here) someone finally being able to put the theory into practice.

Still a long, long way from being production-ready though and no guarantees it ever will be.

It's pointless climate virtue signalling and no-one really gives a sh1t.

About 65% of the World's emissions come from 3 countries - China, India and America. Perhaps people can go and protest outside their embassies, or something.

Nuclear is the way forward. A human during their lifetime will only leave waste the size of a coke can. How we dispose of it in order to go that way is this generations rubix cube to solve. Maybe Scarpa can help?
130 comments in and finally someone says Nuclear!!! But I watched this thing on Netflix....

Nuclear is certainly a start to the problem. Wish it would get more discussion

Ask the Chinese and Indian governments their opinion on the matter ,they don’t seem to care to much about these things.
On the other hand there is Pinocchio Prince Harry who has his views on sustainability but then jumps on a private jet to New York to talk more bile to the American press
Why would they??? I've been there several times. No disrespect, urban areas are a shithole. Even with PPP adjusted the 'average' Indian lives on less than $10 a day. If they want to burn fossil fuels, I'll be damned if it's me telling them but to. Actually, is actively encourage it if it's the cheapest source available to them. When they're living on $50-$100 a day the West can start wading in....

Normal people wouldn't have to change what they do day to day if Big Business, politicans & China could be arsed.

But they don't even care enough to put buildings up properly, they are not gonna give a flying f*** what damage they are doing to the enviornment.

The whole thing is just another way to have a dig at footballers, I suppose they should be giving their wages to the nurses as well.

Both these posts are bang on the money IMO.

A lot of ego involved in this sort of thing, these people who like to tell everyone how squeaky clean and good they are (despite usually being worse when you scratch beneath the surface) whilst sticking the boot into other folk who couldn't make a difference even if they wanted to.

Not referring to anyone in this thread, but it's telling how defensive and aggressive these sort of people usually get when you point out their "sins" or hold them to the same standards that they want to hold everyone else to

It was this.

Yeah the break through was to get a larger output than input, which has evaded the technology for decades.

They managed it at micro-scale, huge step forward, but we are still years, probably decades again, from being able to:
1) Gain outputs at much larger yields
2) Do it consistently
3) Put it into practice.

We can't rely on Nuclear fusion to cut emissions. If we wait for that it'll be too late. It'll be important in the future but right now we'll have to accept the drawbacks of nuclear fission until we get there.

I found what it was that I saw (posted above),I didn't really pay any attention as people were arguing about it and I couldn't be bothered to fully read an understand the science 😂

And between now and then, there will be a 3 Mile Chernobyl accident, then a terrorist organisation/group of freedom fighters (take your pick) will hijack a nuclear waste train and make bigger and better nuclear bombs.
In the end, the fact that average lifespan is circa 80 years (and falling) in the firsat world, means no one has the motivation to really change anything.
Unless in so doing they can make a mega profit in their own lifetime...

France's energy supply is about 90% nuclear based and has been for ages yet as far as I'm aware there's not been any attack on nuclear facilities there, yet there's been plenty of terrorist attacks - probably more than any other country. Certainly felt like there was one a week around 5 years ago.

We've also had a few nuclear stations dotted around the UK for some time and despite being shits on the world stage, we've managed to avoid any incidents too.

Agree with the last two lines mind. :(

Very difficult to attack a nuclear power station in any meaningful way with low grade and improvised weapons, which is the stock in trade off your average terrorist.

You need access to armaments that only states have access to. It's very rare that these get into the hands of common terrorists.

Anyone else, reading this thread, wondering what Keith would have to say about the subject? 🤣🤣🤣

No.

We all know Keith would have fixed climate change and made millions in the process. And because of that he would have had got Greta Thunberg giving him a reacharound too.

It's a story which finished before it started.

To be honest, you can do more damage to a nuclear power station by compromising its control room and (either) performing a reactor „scram“ or turning off the water pumps, than you could if you tried to simply blow it up in a rather simplistic manner.

The Chernobyl incident, for example, was an unplanned reactor scram, where the control-rods were brought out of the water containment (because due to operational failures) the required cooling water was not being pumped into the reactor vessel, which is why it overheated and then exploded (in spectacular fashion).

Worra loada bollocks this thread is... let VAR decide.
Sums it up for me.

Yes we should all do our bit - most do
but
Picking up on this single issue of the Blackpool flight in my view is ridiculous.

Governments need to set the standard -

In June 2021 I was in St Ives when Boris invited world leaders for the G7 Summit. They all flew in with huge support teams, we had road closures, leading to long delays, the President or his wife were supported by a cavalcade on every journey, huge numbers of police from all over GB were summoned, we had warships in the bay. The theme was SUSTAINABILITY. They then reassembled in November with many others for COP 26 in Glasgow.

I’m committed to sustainability - for example I‘ve done years of voluntary work on social housing to provide affordable warmth to tenants using all modern techniques to reduce CO2; I’ve made submissions to Ministers on recycling, use of plastics etc. Sadly most politicians haven’t got a clue.

Of course football should do it’s bit - how many grounds have you seen with facilities to gather energy?
One excellent initiative Football can support is Pledgeball - I recommend their website.

However, the rapid growth in world population to eight billion is the single biggest problem - who is going to sort this?

World Population
Year 1955 2.77 bn
Year 1975 4.08 bn
Year 2020 7.88 bn
Year 2050 9.73 bn (est)

Let us see the big picture and real leadership from world leaders - this is far more important than a single flight to Blackpool!

Rant over

Utterley ridiculous question. A classic modern day case of trying to push an agenda onto the limelight by targeting someone that is not directly responsible. What are we going to do next, stop travelling fans? He went into the interview with the soul intention of talking about something unrelated to the reason the press conference was designed for.

Id have applauded Cooper if he had told him to f*** off. Just ban the f***ing idiot.

I love this forum and the debate/arguments it generates.

Reminds me of September last year when some demonic, baby eating, sponging, self-entitled, privileged, shape shifting reptilian granny died (apparently!) and one or two forum members who are worshippers of that particular cult threatened to take up arms against others who don't believe in such fairy tales!

Good times!
