Yawn.
Omar, the only balance you add to this forum is to throw the biggest, heaviest weight you can onto the negativity side of the balance and leave it to others to try to balance things on the positive side.I'm glad you said it.
I know everyone is tugging one off because we signed loads (and who doesn't love a new signing, right?) but if we take a step back and actually look at them there are some major punts there (not financially). Sangare apart obviously who walks into the side.
Murillo and Santos have barely any senior experience in football nevermind in the Premier League.
CHO is an injury waiting to happen if you look at his recent history.
Origi will be a bench option who Milan supposedly couldn't get rid of fast enough.
Taveres is a bomb scare when defending as we've seen with our own eyes.
Andrew Omobamidele is a signing I like for his future potential but he's not been first choice at Norwich so it would be unfair to expect him to come in here and make an instant impact.
We've certainly added quantity and the squad as a whole has improved, time will tell whether we've actually improved the quality of the first XI or not though.
Waking up with morning glory over this Transer window.
Exactly,FP-it’s about time some feathers were ruffled in the cosy elite of the Premier League.Relegation battler, we'll see Adam?,
What are we supposed to do to better ourselves, buy journeymen and championship players. Not liking the fact that Forest are turning a few heads now and don't want to just roll over and get relegated?
Prick.
Great post, agree with almost everything particularly what you said about Sangare.Crazy times! So lots I called and even more I didn't - thought we'd bring in two keepers, three midfielders and a couple of left backs to oust Toff (may or may not be correct depending on where we see Aina). Also thought Marinakis would take the opportunity to push on while others weren't(? I need to check yesterday's work as I couldn't keep up with ours).
Wasn't ever sure it would be the summer Brennan outgrew us, though very happy Taiwo hasn't yet. Was also convinced Henderson would be back, though appreciate that financially it was lots of eggs in a currently broken basket. Didn't see our number being 14 either, or that we'd have a world cup winner come in on the side we don't need him, or that we'd plan for the future so effectively in some cases - I love the work done at CB.
So - quick overview/snap judgements by position/player:
GK - Turner: already pulled off some big saves - the one with feet Weds was incredible. Looks competent though has a few question marks, namely crosses and kicking (which is fine with his good foot but not so good with his left which he also likes to use when under pressure).
GK - Vlachodimos: know nothing other than what I've heard - sounds similar to what I've just written about Turner really.
CB - Murillo: we'll see, but he comes with limited experience but great references. Looks the part, and great that he has the season to bed in due to his age - don't expect to see too much of him in the short term, long term could be massive.
CB - Omobamidele: no doubt the same folk who loved Bournemouth's work in bringing in Scott will play down this one, but he's the best young British CB out there with the kind of experience he has (50+ games and full international, albeit for poor side). Like this.
LWB - Tavares: looks very strong as an attacking force, not so much defensively. Apparently not first choice (see Jakobs) but the loan to buy means we get to take a proper look at his defensive work. Expect he will frustrate and delight equally - I'll be keeping an eye on Richards progress for Oly in terms of the likelihood of this one converting/being a success.
LWB/RWB/?? - Aina: looks a really good player on early looks - great squad pickup on a free, and one I expect to see off a challenge to earn the shirt longer term.
RWB- Montiel: One for now - will be interesting to see if Serge moves on, but pedigree wise this lad has it. First sight tells me he's small and needs to work with the squad - didn't impose himself too much on his debut but there were glimmers of quality.
CDM: Sangare - we got him! Marquee signing and the one we wanted. I hope that he's good enough to be huge for us, and that he's given time to adapt to the new league and position (not the finished article at CDM) before we make a judgement, because I'm not sure it will involved us playing the more possession based game that some seem to want. Heads will roll if it doesn't work out.
CM: Dominguez - know little other than the decent stats and impressive all action highlight reel. High hopes but we'll see how well he adapts/how much time he gets.
Santos: Possibly a backup in case Sangare didn't get over the line? Great pedigree but young - might see more of him early on if Dani is injured, and think he'll be similar in terms of athleticism/ground eating up/quality/ability in the air!
FWD - Elanga: Pace to burn but doesn't have Brennan's touch and possibly football intelligence. Good early impact though looks raw to me. Should do well provided we keep his confidence up.
FWD - Hudson Odoi: pleased for him to get a proper fresh start under a manager who knows him well. With time I think he'll be a big player for us, and will hopefully link up well with his old teammate MGW. Sky's the limit potential wise - a great calculated gamble.
ST - Origi: hmm - weakest signing of the bunch for me though hopefully we won't see too much of him. I don't see it from his record or earlier performances for Liverpool, but hoping that Cooper knows him well/sees something in him in terms of bringing in those around him that I don't. Low risk at least.
Wood: Will hopefully get us a minimum of four more important goals from the bench.
Roundup:
GK - two good options as opposed to one great option (Navas/Hendo) and someone nobody wants to see.
Defense: excellent forward planning at CB, a battle for the left back spot and a word cup winning right back. (I wish we could have bought his compatriot in on the other side). I'm quite pleased about the attacking focus since if we are moving to wingbacks they will need to push on.
Midfield: The overhaul we needed with a bonus backup. Great work here with any luck.
Attack: question marks over cover for Taiwo in the event he misses a spell. We've replaced BJs pace though the hope is that CHO can thrive here since it's his football intelligence we'll probably need more.
Negatives? As I said yesterday the only sadness really, linking to the BJ departure, is that it feels like the Nottingham link is going. Also there's once more a lot to bed in here, and we'll see where we're at after the Saudi window closes - expect a couple might go.
For me we've bought in the four or five starting quality options we needed while massively strengthening our squad depth. How good a window it eeally is will really be judged on how quickly and we'll Cooper can implement his new system.
Ha, I actually typed English first which would have been even worse!Great post, agree with almost everything particularly what you said about Sangare.
Minor point though - Irish isn't British, careful
Omobamidele will only play if we suffer an injury crisis like last year, same goes for Murillo. Have a look at the teams Norwich put out in their league games this season. Omobamidele is a substitute. What makes us think he is better than our seasoned pros ? He is a great signing for the FUTURE. Although he could also go the way of Mbe Soh and Panzo, depends on him.Crazy times! Agree he's fit the future but it's forward planning to the highest possible level, which is why I like it. There's isn't a better ball playing CB out there at his age/experience.Omobamidele will only play if we suffer an injury crisis like last year, same goes for Murillo. I can name you a better ball playing CB who is 1 year younger than him. Indeed he plays for Chelsea and England.Agree he's fit the future but it's forward planning to the highest possible level, which is why I like it. There's isn't a better ball playing CB out there at his age/experience.
Also worry about McKenna'a hamstrings which I think will see him soon overtaken by one of the two we've brought in.
Colwill? Fair. Doubt he'd fancy us though!I can name you a better ball playing CB who is 1 year younger than him. Indeed he plays for Chelsea and England.
Think Joe has one agreed. Hope we can more years out of Felipe's knees too!Don’t forget Boly, McKenna, Worrall & Felipe are out of contract next summer - with Murillo & Omobamidele you are future proofing that situation with no immediate pressure.
I agree they are investments in the future but i doubt we would not let them be first choice pairing next year or I suspect we would go down. The Club will work hard to renew those contracts for the senior pros or replace them with other senior pros.Don’t forget Boly, McKenna, Worrall & Felipe are out of contract next summer - with Murillo & Omobamidele you are future proofing that situation with no immediate pressure.
That’s a point I’ve been making too in respect of our CBs. Bringing 2 players in, whom currently sit outside the criteria of being counted in the 25 man squad, is fantastic work.Don’t forget Boly, McKenna, Worrall & Felipe are out of contract next summer - with Murillo & Omobamidele you are future proofing that situation with no immediate pressure.
You have been creaming yourself over teams like Bournemouth for the entire window, we do the exact same thing (probably better) & you still find every possible complaint you can find.I'm glad you said it.

I don’t want to be mean but worral and McKenna have been so abject that I don’t see why we can’t put Murillo or Omobamadele in.Don’t forget Boly, McKenna, Worrall & Felipe are out of contract next summer - with Murillo & Omobamidele you are future proofing that situation with no immediate pressure.
