I mean, you may well be right. I'd just feel bad for him if he leaves United for his own personal development and then comes here and barely plays.
I agree wholeheartedly. He’s a very good young player with lots of talent, who clearly wants to play football on a regular basis. I’d love to see him back at the City Ground, and also bear in mind that we have a lot of overseas players competing for the squad, whereas Garner is a home player. Having said that, I’d also be happy to see him go somewhere else where he gets to develop and show what he’s capable of. On another note, it’s somewhat strange that two days after another abject performance by United, they’ve made this announcement about a player who’s yet to feature for them in either game played. I’d have thought that there would be other candidates ahead of Garner who ought to have been shown the door. By now.

The thing is, if he moves then presumably he's going to want to go somewhere that he's going to play every game. Is that really likely here? Central midfield is going to be a hell of a fight for places. Is it fair on him if he comes here and then sits on the bench for most of the season?

Only Norwich, Watford and Burnley can afford him.

If he goes to a prem team - us, Spurs, Leeds, Everton mentioned - he becomes part of a squad.

It would be unrealistic of Garner or his representatives to seek a move where he’s a guaranteed starter each week in the prem, because surely such a move doesn’t exist.

If he came here, I believe he would excel - he knows the club, he’s been on the journey with us, is respected and loved by the fans and the management and would definitely get game time like he should have done at Man U.

Yes, there is lots of competition all of a sudden for CM, but injuries and tactical challenges, 5 subs per match, perhaps playing 3 CMs during some games will mean he does get chances, for me.

Agree with this completely

If Forest want to do this deal then it will get done, simple as that. It's about whether the club feels there is room, but I think there is and you are signing a future England player.

After the week one performance, I'm surprised ten haag didn't start him in week 2. It would've made a point to the board and the other players, as well as giving Jimmy a chance to prove himself.

I love the player and he makes our squad better, but as others have said it's unlikely he starts every week for us and if he wants that, another loan to the champ would be best. If he's ok being a squad player in a meritocracy then sign him up.

After a season and a half here on loan, James Garner is revered at this football club by it's fanbase. I think to the point that if you had to pick a loan signing to come back from last year, most people would pick him. Spence might have had those lung-busting runs and Davis might have been great with his feet but Jimmy made us tick.

He's currently at his favourite club personally, but he's just wasting away on that bench and at this point in his career, he needs to be getting game time. If he comes to us, is he an automatic start? Probably not, but he definitely gets game time. At United, they've really f**ked him about, not unlike Henderson to be honest. Yes, he'd have to fight for his place but I don't think he's shy of that, if anything it would bring the best out of him and the others.

He obviously has a great relationship with Cooper, he knows half our squad but also knows Jesse's game probably better than the rest of our lads do and he knows Henderson as well from being at United.

For me £15m is a no brainer, particularly if things don't go well for us this season and we go down because he'd be a top player for us in the Championship.

Seems to me that players - with the introduction of 5 subs - need to embrace Eddie Jones’ philosophy with the England Rugby team.
He no longer refers to a starting XV & bench - preferring to call them starters & finishers.
We no longer have an 11 man game - and Steve Cooper‘s insistence on 2 players for each position only highlights that each player in a match day squad of 20 have every opportunity of making a telling contribution.

As I see the situation you now need a total of twenty-three players in a matchday squad eleven starters, nine on the bench plus three one of which should be a goal keeper to cover for last minute illness or injuries.
On Sunday West Ham only had eight on the bench, two of which were goal keepers.

Steve Cooper used the 'starters' and 'finishers' terms all through last season and I think at Swansea too

I believe we have bought the Swiss conductor to make things tick. It feels like overkill at this stage to drop another 15m on a CM.

Eddie Jones is a dick and rugby is a very different sport.

I saw someone else here making the point that it could be Garner is waiting for the next manager (which might not be very far away at this rate!) who might see that the first 11 are useless and give him a chance. :-(

If Garner was available for £15m we'd have signed him back in May. Utd probably are asking for double that minimum

I really doubt that. There's no way they're asking for £30m+ for an unproven player at this level who they are actively looking to get rid of.

I think we always felt Garner wasn't valued by Man Utd but we were prepared to wait because we knew the lad wanted to see if United would play him. They won't. And that's why they only value him at 15m, whereas we have given him a chance and seen his potential. As soon as he admits Man Utd are not going to play him, he'll come to Forest. He already fits here, he's a homegrown talent, still young and ready to develop into a key midfielder at a decent price. We should be all over this one.
