He comes up in practically every current football-related thread on a practically daily basis. Come on dude, that's not a controversial statement.

Only in the last two weeks.

Edit: 11th - 25th Jan no posts. 26th Jan - 5th Feb nothing, 6th Feb to 15th Feb nothing. There was then a big 3 week gap between 19th Feb and 10th March in this thread with no posts.

Disagree strongly, but another thing I've learnt about this forum is that people will *never* back down from their original point, so have at it -- I'm out :ROFLMAO:

Again though that's this thread. Cooper comes up regularly in many others.

And now I'm out.

Honest.

Haven't mentioned him much, but id make no apologies for doing so, the bloke performed a miracle to get us where we are now & brought together the football club from top to bottom.

Given we're now a shell of that & have witnessed regression to the point he was sacked, I'm not sure why you wouldn't look back to those days & pine for them.

What I'm struggling with on the forum at the moment is that there seems to be a core of established regular posters and moderators that are taking a very "We told you so" attitude - almost to the point of gloating - to our current predicament (one even admitted to Schadenfreude). Which would be fine if the majority (or even a significant minority) of the forum had been in favour of getting rid of Cooper - but that's not how I remember it at all. I'm pretty sure most of us wanted him to stay, even beyond the point where it felt inevitable which I suppose was the Fulham game. There were only a very few dissenting voices that wanted him out unequivocally at any point.
I have to agree with this. I was vehemently against sacking Cooper, but the forum is becoming borderline unreadable at times with the sort of post you mention.

It literally gets dropped into matchday threads all the time even the FFP thread - it's always the same posters which is fine its a forum people can and should discuss whatever they want and bring up whoever they want but then to try and pretend they do not do it is a little puzzling.

I can't believe people are still posting about Steve Cooper in the Steve Cooper thread.

I mean, it's not as if, as a grown adult, I could just choose to ignore the thread.

But nah, I'll complain and keep bumping the thread instead, that'll help!

That wasn't the original point though, I was just disagreeing with Maxi's claim that Cooper is not a regular topic of conversation across the forum. Of course he should be discussed here.

Steve Cooper gave me my happiest moment as a Forest fan in over twenty years.

And for that, I will always be grateful.

I think it's been pretty quiet on the Cooper discussion till now. The reason that there's a comparison is because Nuno has had a sufficient amount of time with the players and we've not made the progression expected. I think the only stat that goes in Nuno's favour is that we've scored more goals and have a better 'xG'.

We've lost the buzz and atmosphere at the City Ground and players/manager don't appear to be as passionate about the club. For all Coopers faults, you 100% knew that his heart was in it. I'm not calling for Nuno to be sacked, but I think its a perfectly acceptable response to be frustrated that we sacked an extremely popular manager and we're not any further forward.

I think it’s a fair assessment from some to suggest that there are some fans like myself that haven’t moved on from Steve.

But, I also think that it’s a fair assessment to suggest that the club hasn’t moved on from Steve either, as in things have not improved under the present manager like any of us hoped they would.

To add to this though, the forum, and most fan forums, are very much divided on managers. Whether they should stay or be sacked, whether they should have been hired or fired, amongst a lot of other nonsense.

The only time in my recollection of supporting this club where the forum was 98%+ united in their support for a manager was Steve Cooper.

We’re just back to the norm now.

Untimely Forest will fail every year by any “genuine” football success measurement, because we’ll never win anything. 10th, 16th, 9th, 17th. All failures.

Steve Cooper was an overwhelming positive in Nottingham Forest’s history, not for his “successes” on the pitch, but because he brought back pride, belief, and togetherness to a club that was on its knees.

Yes, Maranakis was the owner at the time when we were promoted and we’re all thankful for his funding and drive. However, history doesn’t remember the owner.

I want NES to achieve things for my club, I don’t really care about him as an individual, and I don’t think he cares about us. If NES “guides” us to 17th would I swap him in the summer? Don’t care. Literally don’t care about him.

Would I rather have Cooper now, yes, for the culmination of all the above.

It’s “typical Forest” that we’ve sacked our best manager in three decades for NES, that’s why people are sarcastic about it all. I also think it’s funny, in a self-depreciating way. Every time we lose, one of my first thoughts is that I miss Coops and would rather have lost with him.

The buzz had gone before Cooper left
As the second Luton goal went on you could hear it disappear like a fart on the wind.

Atmosphere was still good and fans publicly backing him all the way to the very end.

The 0-2 loss to Tottenham had a better atmosphere than practically every game since (the Man Utd victory was good though).

I've only been to a couple of games so don't have first-hand experience, but the complaints about the lack of atmosphere have been all season long. Early doors the suggestion was because we had only had the weaker teams visiting.

Sir Elton‘s original lyrics were no match for what eventually became „Candle in the wind“, it has to be said!

I went to the Brentford game the 1-1 draw and there was defiantly a difference in atmosphere compared to what it was like last season. I think theres definately some rose tintedness to what its been like at home for the most part this season even under Cooper.

Maybe if you're judging it on the Stevie Cooper song.

Atmosphere at the Everton game a couple of weeks earlier wasn't good at all, and you could say the same about the Luton and Burnley games that went before. Everton game was the first time I heard chatter about getting rid on the way out (and in fairness to those who were chatting, probably the first time I thought we looked devoid of ideas, not that I wanted him gone).

I'm glad we got behind Cooper at the Spurs game though - it's no more than he deserved - but really I think the vast majority of that crowd knew, rightly or wrongly, that it was the last time we'd get to sing that song. Sad.

It's not been what it was last season, but it was still better than what it has been since he left.

The ground was practically silent for large swathes against Liverpool a couple weeks back. It was embarrassing. What club recently sang "Where's your famous atmosphere" at us recently too?

Edit: Burnley and Luton weren't great earlier in season I'll give you that but neither were Fulham or Bournemouth at home last season. We've never done particularly well at generating noise when we're expected to win, but usually been good when we're up against it... until recently.

Everton was a later kick off so most of us were a bit pissed plus it was f***ing freezing. I would class Everton as an outlier.

Atmosphere was worse than last season but it wasn't bad. Take Fulham away, lose 5-0 and still sing Coopers name. You think if we lose 2-0 to Fulham in a couple of weeks there will be anything but boo's?

My point though is that there were very, very few of those people on here (and probably the most vocal one doesn't post any more), so the hectoring from some feels misplaced. The vast majority of us miss Cooper and wanted him to be given more time, but he doesn't need to be dragged into every conversation.
Were you around when I got absolute pelters for the mere suggestion that Hughton was absolutely awful and should never have been appointed in the first place?

The forum hasn't changed at all, it's still a decent place to talk about stuff and cooper being discussed whilst forest are doing shite in the thread dedicated to cooper/Nuno/the mood is probably a given.

I get bored with it so I just don't click on the threads dedicated to it..
