STAYED up!

I am comfortable, gievn mr Dane Cook's reputation, that he has a couple of dozen potential players to bring in. Obviously, it won't be that many, but a player wanted by us is wanted by other clubs, and we can't get everything we want (or need). I would expect a minimum of 6 signings, which may include a few higher profile loans.

We'll stay up. Solid 15th I reckon. Bournemouth, Fulham, and Brentford to be relegated.

Unless a miracle happens- Everton will be down instead of one of those

As a Villa fan, i can attest to how difficult that first year back can be, however.....

If you buy well its certainly possible, Brentford, Leeds & Villa have managed it in the last 2-3 years, i dont see any reason you cant if you spend well.

With regard to Villa, we spent huge amounts of cash in our first year back in the PL, and although a complete rebuild was needed due to 50% of the squad being out of contract, we did make some poor purchases which over the course of the season, very nearly cost us PL status.

I think you already have a few decent/good/very good players (Johnson, Worrall, McKenna for certain), who can probably cut it at PL level, but if you can add a few more quality purchases, i have no doubt its possible.

The key is spending the money well, which ofc is much easier said than done!

If the PL had a spine they will be throwing the book at Everton with point deductions for trying to evade FFP but I don't think they will rock that boat with one of the 'ever presents'

All I can say is we can stay up with the right signings and luck with injuries. NEVER get complacent. We have a great team but honestly I think there will be a few of our beloved team who might struggle to get a game in the top tier.

In particular I think we'll struggle to score goals and that's probably where most of the investment will go imo. Prem players are generally bigger, stronger, faster, have a better first touch, can work in tighter spaces with less time and can control the ball faster than we're used to seeing. Above all, they think faster and make decisions faster. I feel we'll need to sign several attacking players who have most if not all of those qualities if we want to give ourselves a chance. Basically, it depends who we sign.

You always get someone saying premier league players struggle to cope with the "intensity" or the "pace" of the lower leagues. Absolute bollox, the prem is faster and you get less time and space.

The biggest factor is the backroom staff’s ability to adapt and step up, which will follow through to the players.

Coop has to step everything up a notch, battle higher calibre teams and tactics.

Dane has to operate at a higher echelon.

Marinakis has to adjust his trousers.

I’ve as much faith in them as anyone to do it.

I'm optimistic if we can keep this team together and add a few key players we could do quite well. I realize they were cup games but this team has already put Arsenal and Leicester to the sword this year, and we were unlucky to lose against Liverpool. Maybe one of those performances could be dismissed as a fluke of knock out competition, but not three in a couple of months?

GBG will have a view on this but my impression is that EM likes to bet big when he sees the opportunity to build on success so I think funds will be available for a few purchases. We're starting off as everyone's favourites for the drop, though.

it's not only EM that would do that but any reasonable owner. EM didn't buy NFFC to make money out of it. It's not an investment to him. He invests and makes a lot of other businesses around the world.

This is something he enjoys and i couldn't imagine EM getting in the big league and be satisfied by just that. so, it makes sense that he will spend whatever is allowed to by those rules you have there.

but you have to spend wisely and not burn cash without a plan and proper scouting

Think we might even get garner back for another season, Johnson signs a new contract, spence signs get a new left back Lowe seems to injury prone at this rate. Striker is the main concern and whether we stick with zinck or try for someone better. Will Gerrard sell us Davis is gonna be a sticking point

Honestly it doesn't matter. What matters is making sure we utilise this £170m+ war chest as effectively as possible. That might mean tempting expectations in the field: buying a squad that might not be quite good enough to stay up but it's good enough to challenge for promotion again the following year. It might mean having to spend money bringing the facilities up to premier League standard.

The very worst thing this club can do is piss up loads of money on a bid to stay up and then fail anyway. The money were about is club defining, but only if we use it in the right way. We might need to be patient in terms of being competitive in the top flight for a few more years yet, but we're used to waiting at this club aren't we?
