Standard of Referees (Sponsored by Steven Reid)

It's irrelevant how good a ref is; to win games you need to score 4 goals, so if the opposition score a dodgy penalty, a goal that should have been offside and a goal that didn't cross the line, you still win. Bad refereeing CANNOT be used as an excuse for poor play.

So we have to win every game 4-0 yes?

Again today we were robbed at least a point by the standard of refereeing. Inconsistancy, bad decision making and poor positioning are all contributing factors.

I wouldn't have minded so much but considering that he'd let Burnley off with about five almost identical incidents in and around their penalty area it does piss me off somewhat.

The referee was horrendously lax in their niggly fouls today.. as for the peno, I couldn't see whether Akinbiyi was tugging at Wes' shirt, it certainly struck Wes' arm, but he wasn't facing the ball so I'm not sure how it could be considered to be deliberate.

All in all, he was just a bit of a twunt.

Thing is, our chances were limited by the Burnley players bringing down or pulling back Forest players when we were in brilliant positions. It probably cost us anywhere between 5 and 8 chances today.

If the players were correctly punished for their fouls, Burnley would have ended up with 2 men off the field and we would have found it even easier.

Having just watched Match of the Day, I find it truly baffling how the same foul can result in 3 different outcomes..

Vidic - yellow, Terry - red, Gary Caldwell nothing despite doing it three times!

I find it very strange how the same offence can have 3 different punishments. It ruins the game for me. Today's game was really good for 25 minutes until they scored. They sat back after that and proceeded to play dirty. Again, in the second half, we started off playing football only to be met with Burnley's fouling tactics. Just totally ruined our game for me.

This thread may get some abuse today, because in all fairness that ref was W**K.

Was just gong to look for this thread myself.

I mean Wilson's challenge in the second half was about the only wreckless tackle all game and did deserve a red card as he was the last man yet only booked him :wanker: lol

Morgan was about 25 yards away and saw what was happening and started to run across to look like he was the last man but would never had got there if Wilson hadn't brought him down.

Wilson was no where near the last man as Wes Morgan was covering a plenty.

It was Identical to the John Terry incident, and yet Terry got away without even a yellow!

As I was saying to my uncle before the game, had Wilson gone today it would NOT have been overturned. Why? because its not 'High Profile'

Today's ref was shocking (bar the wilson one, which he got spot on) Far too many fouls/free-kicks and just a general twat of the highest order.

I'll admit to not seeing the second thornhill chalenge clearly, but the first was a cracking header!

Morgan was behind Wilson.

No he wansn't he was square of him and in trying to cover for him by getting behind him, I saw Wilson was getting into trouble so looked where Morgan was and he was way to far from the incident to have done anything had the Forward got away toards goal.

He didn't actually tackle him, what happened was the player played the ball up the line while Thornhill was sliding in, the defender then fell over and towards the advertising boards and Thornhills momentum took him into the player so making it look worse than what it was because of the hoardings.

On Thornhills second, had the Ref and Linesman ruled the ball out as it clearly was the challenge wouldnt have happened.

But that would have meant the officials getting something right which they hardly managed all match :D

That's how I saw it. Thornhill slid in front of the player, not at him, and carried on into the hoardings. The player went into Thornhill's leg.

But whatever it was, it wasn't a yellow card offence!

The free kick leading up to his first yellow card was just so wrong, the whole ground was stunned!

we had some s88t refs in div. 2, whatever made me think that they would improve in the championship!. A message to matt, keep your head up son don't let the b######s get you down, just come back stronger. It was clear that he was very upset by what happened.

We've had some bad referees in the past but This is bad.. even if It is the linesman. Bet Watford were gutted :D

Jesus, surly it was obvious front the players reactions it wasn't a goal

I'd demand the game be replayed ... that is bloody farcical

having considered the incident with wilson and varney just before half time and the fact that pardew berated the ref on his departure from the field, it would seem that the ref decided to do a bit of 'levelling up' as refs are prone to doing and targetted Matt for a sending off.
