So, that Oli Burke money that Fawaz promised would be "used and reinvested"

Well no course he didn't cos he didn't know you were going to do it or approve did he you fool!

There was a huge amount of Hype around Oliver Burke, regardless of what Fawaz intimated, an offer that was difficult to turn down was always a possibility.

If your telling me we were caught cold with no contingency plan for the Burke sale then I'd struggle to believe it, given we employ a Director of football to deal with such matters.

Timing is not an issue here.

I'd wager that the wages are more than covered by revenues at the club.

Ticket sales work out to around £300k per week. Add in sponsorship, prize money, golden share money, and tv money and I don't think Fawaz has been propping the club up to the extent he'd like you to believe.

In 2012-13 the wages at Forest were 146% of turnover ( https://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2014/may/22/championship-club-accounts-profit-loss-and-the-wage-bill ) and largely contributed to us going in to FFP

Haven't seen the figures, but that must have come down a bit since.

I've lost a lot of my initial anger at the OB sale, but only cos time is a healer.

I'm glad we didn't splash the cash around - the squad has been performing well enough early on in PM's tenure that there wasn't really any reason to go out and spend that money. I don't know anything about the new guys aside from Carayol but I suspect that they'll slot in more naturally to PM's way of playing (pass and move) than Burke did, just a shame we don't have that 'wildcard' option now.

Really, if we can keep Britt and Cohen fit, and the new guys aren't totally dross, then we're in a good position. We've let some average players go finally and cut the wage bill, we have the ability to spend in January once the squad has been assessed fully and there's a better picture of where we're going this season.

I still think we could have, and should have got more for Burke, but it's done now. We've still got a capable squad playing decent football with youngsters coming through. We'll still be OK.

I don't disagree with your thoughts on the team. Don't get me wrong, i'm gutted that I wont get to see Ollie have a season here, partly because I think we were watching a very rare talent, and partly because I was thinking, 'this kid is actually going to score 20 goals from right wing'. So we've lost an incredible outlet that could change games.

I think the side still has good balance, we have threats in multiple positions and I think we'll still have a reasonable season. I'm expecting top half. As always, it's been about the how he was sold than the actual sale itself, which some people don't understand when they're criticising for sharing my disappointment/anger.

If people want to kick off to Fawaz about it, on the internet or at the City Ground. I completely understand, like others have said, so long as it's not during the game, i'm supportive of it. I've never booed a player or the team because there's just no point whatsoever, and similarly there's no point booing/chanting against the owner whilst there's a game on and the opportunity to support the team.

I'm glad we've not been panicked into spunking £13m in 2 days.

Money is just a number. The guys we've signed for nowt could easily turn out to be as good as someone costing £5m.

The fact that we haven't spent the money shows what a stupid idea selling him really was. It's madness and shows up a massive communication error between the owner and manager. It's all on Fawaz, if Philippe didn't want to rush spend the money (I'm glad he didn't) what was the point in selling an asset that would only likely increase as the season went on? Now Fawaz is kind of getting the blame in early if things go tits up with his recent video response.

Disappointed that we were unable to hold on to Burke.

I think any outside chance of a top six left with him.

Glad that Britt stayed but don't want him to set the league alight yet, otherwise he'll be off in January.

If he's still here after the next window, then we could be looking at a decent finish and a decent mid table finish.

Like the manager and hope we can finally finish a season with the one we started with

At the end of the day OB could have said no to the move to germany, fawaz didnt put a gun to his head and force him to move, it was OB choice and fair play to him no matter how much it hurts us all that hes gone cause he looked really good, its done, we got 13 million in the bank its there to be spent to reinvest in the team come january so f*** it hes gone!! We got decent team so lets see where the new signings take us..it might come good!!

PM stated categorically that he had the opportunity, but not the desire to spend any of the Burke fee - probably because it was too late in the window to target the right high-end signing without a genuine risk of panic buying for the sake of it. But he did state it all the same.
Exactly. Could have spunked the lot on Rhodes. Would have been the worst move ever. Would've made the twatterati happy no doubt tho

Re: So, that Oli Burke money that Fawaz promised would be "used and reinvested"

Is Lica, Carayol and Dumutru better than Ward, Paterson and Burke? Not only that we have got rid of veldwijk with no replacement. If Assombolonga gets injured we then have no goal threat. Burke and Assombolonga are papering the cracks of a poor defence. We need the new players to pick up Burkes influence. I for one thinks to sell him when we did was a much more poorer decision then keeping him. If it was done a month ago Montanier could of reinvested the money and bought a Rhodes or an Adomah. Montanier said he didn't want to sell him and Fawaz is saying that it's going to be reinvested in players so again the decision is baffling. We didn't need the money to stave off FFP so we should of kept him. I'm my view his price is going to rocket if he continued to score goals. He is a winger and is the top scorer in the championship. He has the qualities of a young bale as well. We could of waited it out!! Assombolonga spent a year injured and his price doubled.
There was more than enough time to buy Rhodes. Glad we didn't

When Lansbury does go, he'll go for peanuts, probably to a 3rd division club or at best lower 2cnd. We had the chance but that hoss has bolted.

He wont go anyway, he's in dreamland here, absolute heaven for the cheeky chappy.

Yeah, time does take the sting out of the sale but still will watch OB now like I watched Christopher Lee Dracula movies when I was a kid, behind 3 cushions with my hands over my eyes....he could be a very special player in 3 years. Now I will wait to see what the new players bring and must admit I'm excited to see what they can produce, there's always intrigue over the unknown and I'd never heard of Thomas Lam until he rocked up to the CG and he looks a decent prospect for bugger all...........can't wait for the league to get back at it now but I'll be trying not too read too much about Leipzig.

Still gutted I will never see this lad truly develop in the Garibaldi red. Had a shit load of beers tonight and it seems to have not faded much. Why are we such a mediocre lower league team who can't keep its talent? Gutting. Love Forest, hate our situation. :'(

This is it. I was thinking the same about Matty Cash.

What sort of game as football become when you have supporters even contemplating not wanting their best players to do well and get you all excited?

No wonder crowds are dwindling at the CG. :weep:
