I blame Liverpool, and Heysel in particular.

I know what you're saying and I agree. But intelligence is measured in different ways.

What we deem to be intelligence and what makes a person clever, will be different in the coming years, because challenges and success will be and already is measured in different ways.

If a 15yr old kid can play a computer game and become rich overnight, who's the smart one? Him for winning shitloads of cash for doing something fun, or the rest of society for working harder to earn a hell of a lot less?

That's just one example, but the world has changed and is ever changing. Survival of the fittest... etc Also what people deem/measure both intelligence and success to be plays a part. But modern views on it are vastly different from yesteryear's society.

I don't like all the changes, and the 'Sky Sports Manics' are an element which frustrate me. But you either accept it and make the most of it, or you grow bitter and get left behind.

Funnily enough, an anology could be that Forest as a club haven't accepted it for years and have been left way behind. I think they're finally starting to move a little more with the times, and I predict relative success will come as a result.

I'm a gonna smoke a stick and ruminate on that for a while.

Don't get me started on this thread , all the yunguns (and some older) will be up in arms and purrin me on 'ignore'

You know my view, I think there are literally millions who've been brainwashed without even realising it, they think they have their own opinions and thoughts but they've already been put there through continual bombardment of market forces.
I often ponder about my generation, I envied my parents generation so much (and still do), yet my sons generation doesn't envy mine at all it seems to me. Too many different lifestyle changes to put here but I think the main one is we have a nation in an ocean load of debt, the poor f***ers get in that rat race everyday mortgaged up to their eyeballs, got to have the latest car (on credit) to keep up with the Jones's but not a tin of beans in the cupboard, gamble away the little bit of disposable income on fixed odds and think that's a great life?

I feel so sorry for the poor f***ers, controlled from womb to tomb. :weep:

If I could give that a 1000 likes I would Raymondo.

Being a nudge over 50 I count my blessings for the luck I've had in my life, much of it by being free enough from "the man" to not give a f***.

That's pretty much it.

This thread is great. It's the 'young 'uns' that are zombified and brainwashed, 'lemmings', etc yet the reasoning from the self-anointed sorum sage's reads like something from a Daily Mail article generator.

Not an original thought between them.

Really?

Pray tell, what are these original thoughts that you speak of?

You've obviously got the answers.

Let's here them?

If we all want more doctors and nurses, policemen, teachers, social workers et al we have to pay for them with more taxes, yet those in power seem to think it can be achieved by reducing taxation or twisting the tax regime.

I'm old and I've had a bloody good life simply by doing what is within my capabilities and doing what is possible without wanting that which is just out of reach.

I thought about posting this.

I first heard it when I was a teenager back in the 70s. Back then dinosaurs used to tell us we were lazy, feckless, looked like girls because we had long hair and wore loud clothes.

A year later and I was sent home from school for having spiked up hair. The dinosaurs had us teetering on the edge of nuclear annihilation with their Cold War we'd been born into. We were generation X - apathetic and despairing as expressed by the punk music of the time because there quite literally was 'no future'.

People moaning about modern footballers is also nothing new. Back then they were long haired poofs and lazy gamblers, womanisers craving newspaper attention.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I bet they were saying the same shit when we spent £1m on a player in 79.

Younger generations will always get shit from older ones because everybody thinks theirs is the best.

31 y/o here. I'd say my generation are academically stupid, but there are still people good at making money.

It always makes me laugh when people talk about money supposedly ruining the game because we were part of it. Everyone remembers the first million pound footballer. And yes, you're right. Much of the same stuff you see on here was said at the time... "the games gone, what an obscene amount to spend, it would never have happened back in our day when footballers earnt a maximum wage, he's never worth that...etc"

As it turned out, he was worth it.

The irony of this thread is that hardly any of us were alive during the Golden Age of Football.

Nostalgia always plays a part. As does our team being crap for twenty years. But however many old Youtube videos I watch for other sports I follow, I don't wish any of those sports were more like they were thirty years ago.

90's & earlier 00's football was awesome. Lots of new innovativations to quicken the game like good pitches etc, but still grounded and a physical & semi-honourable game.

Get ready for a season of Skysports stats folks, passes excecuted, tackles excecuted etc etc.

There's some new ones this season, sweat excreted, chocolate star scratched, phlegm spat - weight in grammes, distance projected, the co-ordinate in pixels where it landed on the pitch....
