Firstly, what a term. I absolutely f***ing love everything about it.

But secondly, I thought it worthy of it's own debate. Is there a generation divide? Has Sky Sports & virtuality influenced the game so much that there's a lack of soul to the game?

Is this all part of bigger picture, where fast food replaces real food, cheap tinder sex replaces dating & love, and society declines into a greed soured oblivion?

It’s part of the masterplan to subdue dissent and sedition by providing cheap, unhealthy food and, through the medium of television, sporting contests to promote tribalism and distract the masses from what the government is actually doing.

Its funny isn't it that the country is going to shit hand in hand with the inexorable rise of Sky and other subscription services. When all of these services start they look like a godsend for Joe Public, cheap access to a plethora of sporting competitions although many of them were already free on terrestrial television covered by the price of your licence fee.

What exactly have Sky and their ilk actually changed?

Whether its football, cricket, tennis or whatever there's still a winner and loser, the actual sporting process and outcome hasn't changed much in decades, but if you believe the PR bullshit, these competitions have only been invented in the last 25 years. Theres so much sport on TV now there isn't actually time to watch it all, before you even consider the 24 hour news service, wall to wall films with the odd thought provoking documentary thrown in for good measure.

Life hasn't improved because of it, if anything its got worse, paying through the nose to listen to unintelligible "pundits" giving their gut feeling thoughts on all manner of things that we didn't need to worry about 30 years ago, while forgetting that they know f*** all about the lives of the punter they claim to be talking to, having led a molly-coddled life where everything is done for them or can be bought at a price. Just like the majority of politicians the average pundit isn't going to know the price of a pint of milk, but I bet the ***** know exactly how much "moolah" they are raking in from this subscription model.

Everything has been commoditised, there's a cost factor involved, players in all sports have an agent, a PR representative, a book deal coming along, anything to extract the last penny out of their adoring fans back pocket while all the time being lauded for making it onto the gravy train.

Where is this tribalism that you talk about?

I don't see it, unless you mean the haves and have nots, those that can afford £100+ a month and those who can't. It's now seen to be an "outlier" to not have the broadband/TV/phone package that marks you out as a functioning member of society, paying your way to extravagantly consume everything that is put in front of you, yet you still want more, turning us into a nation of self absorbed, gluttonous, obese wankers who think we are living the life as we watch some shite American crime series that everyone is raving about, when in fact life is passing us by quicker than we can ever imagine.

It's all f***ing shite, bought by people too thick to realise they aren't individuals all pitched together, but just the same as everyone else. Your shit tattoos and wank beard don't make you look "far out" just sad and desperate for attention that no-one was ever going to give you, so why are you trying so hard to fit in, when really you want to push back against the system, but you won't until someone else does it first.

f*** Sky, f*** BT, Netflix, Amazon, Facebook et al. They don't give a shit in the end apart from how much they can clean you out for every month and like a herd of lemmings you let them do it.

Anyway, my rant wasn't just aimed at Sky, but the whole shite that surrounds broadcasting these days, the constant promotion of gambling, alcohol, claims culture, getting pissed, spending money you don't have, then getting someone else to pay for it.

Don't forget the NHS. Pay your taxes to a service which unecc destroys the body's naturally strong ecosystem, end up with a diseaes or tumour etc. created by said treatments, then spend more money on medication managing those conditions and hail the NHS as heroes for doing so :LOL:

The problem with the NHS though is that they try to fix to many of societies problems with pills, to the point now where unless Joe Public rattles like a tube of Smarties they don't think they can get better.

We're sleepwalking into an epidemic of addiction to prescription drugs, most of which are doled out to an unsuspecting public who are unable to make decent decisions for themselves, then rely upon GP's "helping" them with drugs that in many instances they don't need.

The answer to everything seems to be "take more drugs", but that's ok, these ones have been legally prescribed by your lovely friendly doctor, doing it for the benefit of you, while they get kickbacks from the drugs firms pushing their products.

So, on one side we have folk eating, drinking, smoking and taking drugs, while on the other we have the NHS saying most things can be fixed by a combination of ever more drugs.

Who's right, who's wrong?

I think what Alf is getting at is there are a load of ways to deal with the ills of society, not all of them requiring a prescription of pills for life. Wellbeing starts in the mind, requires a modicum of exercise, a smattering of spiritualness and a large dollop of self awareness. You don't find that in a packet of Tramadol.

It's a cop out by the NHS, the easy way out, just a few more pills, when a bit more love, community cohesion and thinking outside of the box has been proven to work wonders for huge numbers of people.

There’s a lot of money in selling drugs to people, legal and illegal.

I agree with the main point. Many suffer from Hyper Sitting Syndrome and Obesity related problems, to which the answer isn’t more drugs but a change in lifestyle.
