Keep or not?

I reckon in terms of times offside to minutes on the pitch there can't be much difference between him and Henderson to be honest.

Keep this thread live, next season Cox will be an intricate, valuable member of a successful side.

I hope so. If (when?) we sign a proper striker it will take a lot of the weight from his shoulders, and he might flourish

And if he starts the first three games and is piss poor do we write him off as gash like we have other players?

I like him but he is so frustrating to watch especially his poor knowledge of the offside rule.

Square peg round hole, speaking of hole or space, play him in the centre, linking the midfield coming forward and ensure the striker who ever he is, does not have to play isolated upfront, exposed as Cox was for he majority of the season. I honestly think he will be hugely influential next season.

So basically we need to sign a goal scoring striker to help ensure any short comings regards Cox are non existent?

I agree

But how long do we keep persevering with him? It's got to be way back under SOD's tenure where he turned it on and looked value for money. I totally agree he ain't a lone striker and I certainly wouldnt get rid but he frustrates me, the talents there he just has to show it.

Try playing to the players strengths, especially over a long marathon of a Championship season.

So we need to build a squad around Cox now for next season? Or are you saying Cox may be OK for a few matches next season when our resources are stretched?

If fully fit and on form Coxes most likely asset would be to provide the bullets for a decent striker to score whilst getting the odd goal himself. He has been well away from his best for a good while though. Pivotal season for him really.

Is this his last or did he sign a 4 year deal?

He worked well with Sharp but hasn't really clicked since.
I agree it's a big season for him, if he has another poor one his value will definitely drop and he'll end up back somewhere like Swindon.

That was last season TT!

It was but we ain't going to sell him to anyone and he won't move because of his decent wages at Forest. We are in the same boat as with Miller and Derbyshire. We need to get him fit and motivated to fight for a first team place up against hopefully 2 or 3 new strikers.

When he signed, I thought it was an excellent capture, to see him linking with Sharp under SOD, reinforced my original opinion, obviously has not looked the same player since being asked to operate as the lone striker. As you can see from the tone of my posts, he is a player I feel can contribute a huge positive effect on next season.

Only time will tell.

My main concern is some players come to Forest and do well during the honeymoon period then seem to slip into a state of complacency, never achieving anything higher at the club. I fear Cox will be one of these, maybe he thinks (and was told by Billy) he is doing a great job?
I've no doubts he is a decent player but fear we've seen the best of him. However, he really needs to get focused and buckle down now, or his career will go backwards.

Obviously he's still under contract, but hasn't he had enough time?

At least with Fryatt and Veldwijk he'll have competition. An incentive to play. And the burdon of pressure taken off ight might increase his performance (everyone says he plays better not as the lone striker).
