Silas

My current favourite VfB player.

The Congolese is properly rapid, capable of bamboozling opposing defenders with mazy runs, dribbling, and great close-control. Good shot on him as well.

Be aware, though, a centre forward he is not. He is primarily a winger, or an attacking midfielder, mostly right-footed but can operate on both flanks. He has played up front, but only to cover injuries (and there have been a few of those, in Stuttgart). He has also played before as a (very) attacking right-sided wing back.

He had a cruciate injury at the start of last season, and then dislocated a shoulder a couple of games into his comeback, but this season he’s been mostly fit and firing, albeit perhaps not entirely back to his pre-injury best, but his sheer unpredictability means sometimes not even he knows what he’s going to do. And he is loved in Stuttgart for that.

He did sign a new deal earlier this season which runs until 2026, so it’ll take good money to get him.

Note that, controversially, the reason he is now known as Silas Ktompa Mvumpa, rather than Silas Wamangituka as previously, is that Silas Wamangituka didn’t actually exist. Silas was trafficked from the Congo by an unscrupulous Belgian agent on fake papers, with an incorrect date of birth (making him to be one year younger than he actually was) and he signed for Paris FC, and later VfB Stuttgart, under that name.

The player eventually broke down and confessed this to VfB, and was summarily investigated by the DFB, when the whole sordid story came out. Sympathetically, he was banned for three months (partly over the summer, and he was injured anyway having ruptured a cruciate) and then reregistered as Silas Ktompa Mvumpa (although he simply now wears “Silas“ on his shirt).

raid stuttgart for silas , wataru and mavropanos.

This.

They can all come together and live in a rented house in Hyson Green so they're not lonely and they can bond/gel with the lads as a trio.

Arter - when he's not sweeping up in the boiler room - can use the club transit van to fetch them in the morning, take them home in the afternoon and get their food shopping in Asda. Jonjo can nip round and do the cleaning/washing and Wood can take them to Hooters for lunch on a Friday.

It's a win-win for them, the club and us. The only person with their nose out of joint will be the kebap muncher.

Yeah we tried to sign him back in 2019: https://sportwitness.co.uk/nottingham-forest-newcastle-scouting-ligue-2-youngster-past-weeks/

He is similar physique wise to Brennan I think, he is quite tall but also rapid. Certainly fits Cooper's comments post Arsenal about the game going towards a more athletic and quick game.
back when the manager was karanka. oh , how things changed but the rumors still stayed the same.

Knowing absolutely nothing about the player, I'd suggest in any wide player we need better crossing/passing rather than raw pace.

Based on FM stats alone (appreciate that makes this comment very flippant) feels like this could be more of a Johnson replacement in a split striker role?

Edit: FWIW here's Johnson's FM stats, which, crossing aside where Johnson clearly better, are almost identical to Silas.

On bench tonight - they trying to put us off the scent?
Great atmosphere though at Hamburg!
The atmosphere is pants compared to the first leg last Thursday at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

VfB more defensive tonight - sitting on a 3-0 aggregate lead.

The Congolese finally comes on, on 80 minutes and almost immediately forces a today save.

Friedrich has caught the eye in the last few weeks. No one has mentioned him. I’m looking for a Strummer seal of approval!

Führich?

Tidy Player, but he will have a worldie one week and disappear the next. One portion of the fanbase sees him more as an impact sub, a role he excels in.

Didn’t work very well, he scored after he came on
A lovely finish too, on the break; he had previously made a sumptuous twisty run into the Hamburg box and forced an excellent save from their keeper, the rebound of which was then spooned towards the Port of Hamburg by Luca Pfeiffer (who, sadly, has form for that sort of thing, and a pitching wedge for a right foot).

Note that also, when introduced as a sub, he ostensibly replaced the right wing-back, Josha Vagnoman; Silas has previously played as a (ridiculously attacking) right-sided wing-back - just don‘t ask him to defend, because he doesn‘t do that.

"spooned towards the Port of Hamburg", "a pitching wedge for a right foot" , wonderful, thanks Strummer made my evening.

Probably bullshit, but this article claims we are in advanced talks:

From the article:
"The English club of Nottingham Forest, is determined to offer the service of the young Congolese international. For its part, Stuttgart, to release the man who has repeatedly transformed himself into the club's savior, is only waiting for the sum of 20 million euros. In Nottingham Forest, Silas will compete with the Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi.

The two parties who are in very advanced talks will probably have to agree in the hours that follow to formalize the departure of Silas to Nottingham Forest."

Are Congo in the Africa CoN? We'll have no one left!

Oh they're second in their qualification group currently. Well this ought to be a factor.

Same agent as Mangala, top 2 rated players by the looks of it. Could be something in this, wouldn’t be 20mil though.
