Another from the Bundesliga and "crack German outfit, VfB Stuttgart" 24 year old forward Silas Katompa Mvumpa (formerly Silas Wamangituka) linked in the print edition of today's Sun referenced here:

Remember him being blisteringly quick when he was at Paris FC, did his cruciate a couple of seasons back, not sure if that's impacted his pace at all, perhaps Strummer can give us a scout report?

Surely you mean "crap German outfit, VfB Stuttgart"?

Silas seems to have struggled post injury, after a very good 1st season in the BL.

I watched the relegation play off & the LWB Sosa was very impressive. Not sure what he'd be like defensively in a back 4, however his delivery & ball carrying was excellent. Mavrapanos, who has also been linked, looked good as well.

I can't say I know loads about the lad, but if we are spending that kind of money, aren't we better off pushing the boat out for a proven goal machine aka Jonathan David et al?

We were linked with this guy ages ago so wouldn't be a surprise, sure we were rumoured to have wanted him when Stuttgart got him but obviously couldn't offer Premier football at that point, he's a good player and rapid, id be happy (Not sure if our resident expert would have a different view though)

Seems a decent player from what (admittedly little) I know of him, but if we signed him it'd be another player who could be playing at AFCON.

I'd rather we brought in a striker who could fill in for Taiwo whilst he is at AFCON. The thought of Chris Wood being our only available striker during AFCON is a very grim one indeed.

I imagine David would cost fair to much think his last move saw him go for 30 million euro so I imagine you would have to drop 40-50 million euros to sign him. Plus he will likely want to sign for a Champions League teams I imagine.

I won't get excited until strummer tells us to f*** off.

Goalscoring record not brilliant but I don't know utilization, etc. Agent talk?

If my memory serves me right, Strummer has been pretty complimetary about this lad in the recent past.

My current favourite VfB player.

The Congolese is properly rapid, capable of bamboozling opposing defenders with mazy runs, dribbling, and great close-control. Good shot on him as well.

Be aware, though, a centre forward he is not. He is primarily a winger, or an attacking midfielder, mostly right-footed but can operate on both flanks. He has played up front, but only to cover injuries (and there have been a few of those, in Stuttgart). He has also played before as a (very) attacking right-sided wing back.

He had a cruciate injury at the start of last season, and then dislocated a shoulder a couple of games into his comeback, but this season he’s been mostly fit and firing, albeit perhaps not entirely back to his pre-injury best, but his sheer unpredictability means sometimes not even he knows what he’s going to do. And he is loved in Stuttgart for that.

He did sign a new deal earlier this season which runs until 2026, so it’ll take good money to get him.

Note that, controversially, the reason he is now known as Silas Ktompa Mvumpa, rather than Silas Wamangituka as previously, is that Silas Wamangituka didn’t actually exist. Silas was trafficked from the Congo by an unscrupulous Belgian agent on fake papers, with an incorrect date of birth (making him to be one year younger than he actually was) and he signed for Paris FC, and later VfB Stuttgart, under that name.

The player eventually broke down and confessed this to VfB, and was summarily investigated by the DFB, when the whole sordid story came out. Sympathetically, he was banned for three months (partly over the summer, and he was injured anyway having ruptured a cruciate) and then reregistered as Silas Ktompa Mvumpa (although he simply now wears “Silas“ on his shirt).
