Back in the Championship days I’d stop watching the games live (on tv) once we were mathematically safe / no chance of promotion. Mainly because of the time difference here.

When I lived in the UK I’d still go occasionally, but after a number of dead rubbers (Cardiff at home in 16 I think) on the last day of the season I’d sack it off.

I’d never give up at the start of the season though! Even when we had Hughton I’d watch!!!

I can’t believe they thought they would stay up?! Minimal investment…sell your two best players. It’s their club that has given up.

That stat is a bit picky. We lost 8-1 to Man Utd in 99, Ipswich lost 9-0 to Utd in 95 and got relegated. But not since 2001 obviously

Southampton lost 9-0 to Leicester in the 19/20 season and 9-0 to Man Utd in the 20/21 season.

They stayed up twice.

It's only when tiny little Nottingham Forest beat them twice in a season do they get relegated. When that has played out they've been relegated 100% of the time since 1960, maybe earlier, I can't be arsed to go any further and check.

My therapist advised me not to think about the 8-1 loss to Man Utd... it makes me wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat.
