Johnny Metgod obviously regularly at these games over-seeing the pyramid. #Dutch

Snapshot of Warbs and Weir. They will be pleased with attitude and the way the senior players played with the young professionals. The whole pyramid is playing the same.

I was under the clear impression that the introduction of U-23 competition was to make these development league and cup matches more like the old reserve team system - allowing academy players and/or graduates to play more competitive football alongside seniors who may be out of favour or returning from injury, thus making the significant transition from academy football to the first-team slightly easier in theory.

If the 'shaggers decide not to do that it's their problem.

The funny thing Otis is they have been doing it all season with Shackell & Anya and recently Thorne has been too.

This was the perfect opportunity for Warbs/Weir to get minutes into Henderson, Mills, Boucha, Cash and Clough to keep them sharp but also to see them play our way. Are they doing what we need them to do if they need to come into the first team.

With so many of our young players in the first team (Smith, Worrall, Osborn, Walker, Brereton) & on loan (Iacovitti, Yates, Grant, McDonagh) it was the perfect opportunity to see guys like Gabriel, Crookes, Anel, Otim, Walters , Gomis (Edser, Taylor, Smith) who aren't on loan play with the seniors and see how they can fit in or if they ever can.

The really impressive thing is the attitude from the senior players. Modern day footballers who aren't in their first team don't seem to like dropping down but not our guys.

Age Splits

Derby : u20, u20, u19, u20, u21, u17, u21, u19, u21, u19, u20
Off the bench : u20, u18

Forest : Senior, u19, senior , u20, u19, senior, u21, u20, u23, senior, u19
off the bench : u19, u20, u19

I was laughing at their comms saying they only brought the seniors because it was Derby.

Its was as clear as day some of what is left of the U23's aren't going to make it with us , Cash ,Clough , Bouch and Mills had a stroll and looked head and feet above the rest , Some of the others also played well then some are going to struggle.
Its good to get first team players playing with the U23's as you can see just how good they are or aren't.
Not going to name names but they better shape up or they will be finding a new club.
Credit to Mills also he gets far too much stick but he is still a decent back up player.
And could have said f*** it I can't be arsed with this but instead he put in a shift in front of 100 people.

2 of our so called Seniors were under 23 and 1 was 24.
Maybe if the sheep showed some faith in their youth they’d have been able to do the same?

Spot on matey.

Was saying in the academy thread that Anel and Crookes were the best of the youngsters. Crookes could get a nice league loan I hope. Left-sided CB's are rare and we could have another with Iacovitti playing professionally. He played very well first half and Mills 2nd half. But over 90 the dealt with everything.

We can be patient with Toby but a deal to 2020 probably a bit much. Maybe 2019 better. Ideally we want to be playing as much of this years U18 FA Youth Cup team in the u23s next season so Gabriel needs to buck up or a loan to non-league will have to happen.

That's it mate. Pathways. Derby don't create them. Then their recruiting policy leaves much to be desired too.

Anyone remember Mason Bennett ? Debuted at 15 around the time Will Hughes came. Bennett is 22 now and just not developed.

I had an argument on Facebook last night with a sheep shagger who said we'd played first teamers. When I pointed out that our entire midfield were in the team of the week - so obviously Cash and Clough were not regular first teamers - he just reverted to his usual 24 seconds 'banter'.

Mind you there's also a thread on their forum about boycotting Lidl.

Bunch of moaners.

Saddie fans are also talking of boycotts because of some advert featuring a kid wearing a Forest shirt.

No doubt Lidl senior management will be shitting themselves in anticipation of the significant dip in profits that'll bring!
